v21.1 - DVD's do not play
#1
I was hoping 21.1  would fix  playing DVD folders, but sadly it is still broken.  I worked fine in 20.x
I mean playing a DVD by playing the VIDEO_TS.IFO  file.   Since 21, it does not work anymore.

It is working ok for me.
Provide a Debug Log that captures the problem.

Worked for me on the Windows and android arm (Fire TV and Google TV) platforms.

I was having issues with this prior to v21.1 (even on v21.0).  Only releases in v18.9 worked reliably for me previously.

Thank you very much.
Let me describe the issue further.  I have a lot of DVDs  (folder structures) on an SMB share.  With Kodi 20.x and before, I just navigate to the DVD folder an click on the VIDEO_TS.IFO file and the DVD will run, with menus and all.
Note that I am directly browsing and accessing the files on the SMB share , but I don't have a video library.

With Kodi 21.x , it does not work anymore. Either nothing happens  (most of the time),  or the first video runs but menu controls never show up,  or the dvd intro video runs and then it stops, and never goes to the next video with the menus.  In most of the DVD folders that I have , nothing happens.
You can see videos here of the 3 scenarios:

Here is a log for the most common scenario, where you click on the VIDEO_TS.IFO  file and nothing happens.

All of this is running Kodi 21.1 on my Nvidia Shield.  I have not tried in any other platform.   When I was on version 20.x and before, all these examples worked perfectly.
I have only tried DVD folders from my SMB share. I have not tried copying a DVD folder into the internal memory.

To try , I have just installed Kodi 20.5 on another Android device.  All these examples in the videos work fine.

Hope it helps.  I really would appreciate if you can take a look, because I have a lot of DVD images.  I wouldn't like to have to downgrade to version 20.  And I believe this is a very used thing.

Enable "combine split video items" in settings > media > videos.

Thanks.  It's the same, it still does not work.
The only difference is that I can now click on the folder instead on VIDEO_TS.IFO file.   But DVDs still do not play.

Hmm, works here as expected (Kodi on Windows). My DVDs are packed normally into an ISO. I've just unpacked one of them and clicked on the folder. It just playing like the ISO.

I can confirm on coreelec, the same issue occurs. Behaviour is erratic, sometimes nothing happens, sometims it will start with garbled menus that are difficult to back out of. The last few iterations seems to have introduced the regression,at lease for some platforms it seems.

I have the problem on Kodi for Android,  accessing the DVD folders that are on an SMB share on my Windows PC.

Hello Karellen, were you able to take a look at this?  I posted a description, videos and the debug log.
Thanks!

I have split your posts into a new thread.

I have had a quick look. Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge to figure out the problem on Android. I do see this...
error <general>: CDVDVideoCodecAndroidMediaCodec::Open Failed to create Android MediaCodec

Maybe @fritsch might know?
