Android Music Video Source Not Adding To Library
#1
Trouble adding Music Videos.  Using an Nvidia Shield Pro. I have not used XBMC for a long time.  But I have my old files.  Trying to take it slow and do one category at a time.  Music Videos first.

I see Music Video says I have no library.  I go to files.  I browse till I can see my music video folders.  I select that folder named Kodi Music Vids.   On the next screen I change “none” to music video.  I scan using local info only.

Each music video is in its own folder.  It looks like this:

B52s – Love Shack.mp4
B52s – Love Shack.nfo
B52s – Love Shack.tbn
fanart.jpg

The path is (\\SHIELD)(S) .> Music >  Kodi Music Vids > B52s – Love Shack

On the Kodi Edit Video Screen the path is:
/storage / emulated /0 / Music / Kodi Music Vids /

I can browse to the folder via files.  I can see each movie filter and when I  scroll I can see the fan art.  But it still says nothing in my library.  I tried scanning for new content but no luck.  I thought every time I started Kodi it would auto scan for new content.

Suggestions?

Did I post for help in the right place?

That should be "I can see each music video folder".  Apologies - madcow.

I downloaded the uploader add on and uploaded a debug file.  It gave me this url:

Please in the future, after enabling debug level logging exit and restart, as key details when Kodi starts may not be logged.

In this case what I see is
Code:
No information found for item '/storage/emulated/0/Music/Kodi Music Vids/B52s - Love Shack/B52s - Love Shack.mp4

tells me your nfo file was not found or is not usable.  Can you upload the nfo file?

Also, Kodi has not used .tbn since v18(?). You will need to change that to .jpg and name it correctly. If it is a thumb image, it should be... B52s – Love Shack-thumb.jpg
And your fanart image should be B52s – Love Shack-fanart.jpg

Scott, here is the NFO file:

<musicvideo>
<title>Love Shack</title>
<artist>B52s </artist>
<album>Cosmic Thing</album>
<genre>Rock</genre>
<runtime>4:17</runtime>
<plot>The song's inspiration was a cabin around Athens, Georgia, complete with tin roof, where the band conceived "Rock Lobster", a single from their first album; it is often said to have been located off "the Atlanta Highway", as the first verse implies. B-52's singer Kate Pierson lived in the cabin in the 1970s, and the cabin existed until 2004, when it burned down. "Tin roof...rusted," wailed by lead singer Cindy Wilson, was originally an outtake added to the track, and is perhaps the song's most memorable line. Fred Schneider also provides some memorable lines, including his notable boast of having a Chrysler that is "as big as a whale" and "seats about twenty". It has come to mean many things to different listeners. The now famous drag queen RuPaul can be seen dancing in the music video. </plot>
<year>1989</year>
<director>Don Waas</director>
<studio>Reprise</studio>
</musicvideo>

Karellen, thanks for the advise on the fanart and thumb file. I will do so. I had trouble fitting Kodi when I first got it and ended up using VLC. I used XMBC in my PC days.

Scott,

I made the name changes to the jpg files.  Then I edited the NFO file.  Dealing with just this one B52 Music Video I thought be easiest.  The Kodi wiki indicates that the only required tags are for <musicvideo>, <title>, and <artist>.  So I took everything else out.  Did a scan for new contact after highlighting that file and nothing.  The NFO file now looks like:

<musicvideo>
        <title>Love Shack</title>
        <artist>B52s</artist>
</musicvideo>

Can you put back all the data you removed. The wiki is not meant to read "You only need these two tags".
It is meant to read as "Out of all the tags you add, these two must be included".

Ensure the file is in UTF-8.

If that does not fix it, then upload the entire file somewhere and provide the download link and we can test it.

I was unsure how to insure UTF-8 so I used Notepad++ to recreate the nfo file.  And marked the check box for UTF-8.  In the past I have just used ordinary text files with an nfo extension and they all worked fine.

Thanks. That nfo file works for me.
Did you use this exact file on your system?

Yes.  I used it on my Nvidia Shield and then scanned for content.

Not sure if anything I say below will help, but I get triggered easily when it comes to music videos Smile.

Your nfo, as you posted on Dropbox works for me too. That being said, I always try to simplify or keep things tidy when it comes to NFO files, since I know from personal experience how easy it is to break things.
Nothing below are dealbrakers (aka things should work regardless), but hey, who knows:
- if your files names are as you indicated above (i.e. "B52s – Love Shack"), that contains an "en Dash", not a hyphen-minus. You can't type an "en Dash" straight up, you'd have to go for the ANSI code, and type ALT+0150. I wonder how did you get to have these files names.
- usually (not sure; does Kodi saves nfo like that and it became my reflex?) I have the declaration block at the beginning of a nfo -> <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
- the <runtime> block can only have minutes, not minutes : seconds
- the <Director> info is wrong. Don Waas was the producer of the song, not the Director of the music video. Adam Bernstein shot the music video in Highland, New York. There is no <Studio> tag that comes into play when one talks about the music video, unless you want to mix the info about the video with the one for the song, which in my opinion is wrong.

Hey Daydream,
I like my MVs as well.  So I am trying to get just one to work.  The reason I decided to return to Kodi was because they have a way to manage music videos and play them in party mode.

I changed the run time to 4 but it didn't make any difference.  The rest of your comments I am unsure of.  I did use Notebook++ and set the setup to check my file.  Elsewhere Karellen has a post describing how to set it up.  If everyone was having this problem with the nfo file, I would think that was my problem as well.  But since I am the only one, I am more inclined to the think I have done something else wrong.
