This would fix 21554 (GH issue) and finally enable people with less powerful devices to be able to watch anything they want without heavy stuttering when subs are enabled.

are you just quoting sarbes? https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues/2155...1935607701

the rest of the comments seem to suggest the other solution is to do nothing long enough that the low end devices that exhibit the issue(s) are phased out and sent to e-waste
(paraphrased, they actually suggest just buy better hardware)

Unfortunately most people living in developing countries can't change tvs that easily and even then, TVs with low end processors are extremely widespread in the market unfortunately

It would be sad if most devs think like that about this issue, it will never be fixed in that case Sad these devices can perfectly handle 4K HDR videos even high bitrate sometimes with other players and apps, why not make Kodi the absolute best player for every device?

users in developing countries can't get higher end devices
but they can get 4K BluRay movies and have the PC Hardware capable of copying that disc while also affording the Storage required to store it after the fact
(plus the networking to serve it from a storage server in some cases)
and a Television/display that is 4K HDR

all that but not 1 single better piece of playback hardware?

sorry, i don't subscribe to that logic

-----

developers code for what they own and use, if a developer in a "developing country" is having issues with their device then they will write the code to fix it

if i had only $50 to spend on a playback device i would buy a bluray player then feed my family with the remaining $30

Your logic is completely flawed. First of all who said people in developing countries buy and rip blu-rays? Do you think anyone with that kind of money would be complaining? I know absolutely NO one who owns such a device in my country, we just resort to p**acy either from shady websites, t*rrenting, etc and host it from pcs

Secondly, most low end 4k TV nowadays do have HDR, that's 99% of TVs they sell here, they are not really powerful enough to play games or give you the best screen quality clearly but they just work when trying to see an HDR video on youtube for example. It's those kind of devices that suffer from the issue I referred to above

While that may, or may not, be true, please lets not be aggressive to other members.

aggressive towards a notion that buying a better device is not an option because it's too expensive when the equipment required beforehand to make the device even useful is more expensive
the user proved my point with their response though and as i don't associate with those types of individuals this user is in no further danger of aggression from me

in the future i will exercise my ignore options sooner so they should be in effect before any aggressive posts are made

apologies to any legitimate users who are offended

What are you even talking about? You're acting like a 4 year old responding things like "unsubscribed" and calling me "ilegitimate" and making stuff up about the "equipment required beforehand" (any working computer or laptop even if it's very low end or old and internet), please grow up. I do not wish to be associated to people like you either, you're not contributing by any means so please refrain from posting in this thread anymore

Devs who are reading this, even though I see this as a priority and some might argue it's not. I wish to contribute to make this happen. I know nothing about C but I might give it a shot if anyone can point me which files should I take a look at in the code

As it happens this is one of the long term aims of the project, mainly to allow Kodi to run completely headless. However it's not a simple task as the code became so entangled over the first 15 years of the projects life, in the early years in particular there were no real code standards, so in many cases if it worked then it was added. But slowly bit by bit the devs are working to untangle it, and due to this work we now have coding standards, and having working code is not the only criteria for getting code contributions merged now.

Thank you for your reply, I'll look into the code and try to find something useful for this issue. If there's anything I could do to help besides this please let me know.
