I have not installed Kodi yet so I can't check this out for myself. But first, if I loaded a DVD movie disc into my pc's BD drive can Kodi play it just like JRiver and VLC players can? If so, does Kodi have a zoom control that works via keyboard commands and/or mouse clicks and drags?

If yes, can work on the fly like my PioneerLX500 BD player's remote can: I hit the blue button and using the remote's up, down and sideways buttons, I can magnify the image up to four fold and center any part of the zoomed image on the screen?

Again, please specify keyboard and mouse actions for doing on the fly zoom in/out control and zoomed image screen center.

And can I do the same thing while playing decrypted BD movie discs?

Welcome to the forum.

Installation of Kodi is pretty simple. I do suggest a Portable mode (wiki) installation if you're going to use script or code manipulation.

Understanding that Kodi is a great video library management tool that happens to include a built in player brings better understanding; The built in player is sufficient for most users, but the developers have made allocation for 3rd party players to be called into play within Kodi such as VLC, Zoom, MPC-BE etc. External players (wiki). Kodi in itself is not a video editing deck nor a replacement of dedicated hardware, most non dedicated hardware is unable to do on fly editing. wiki for Video playback (wiki) and Zoom tool, Keyboard controls (wiki) most can be remapped to a remote.

You seem to be clear from the last statement, that Kodi can handle disks, but disk protection might provide an obstacle.
