For some reason .. my sata drives just vanished from xbmc .. Can see them in bios during boot but in xbmc .. media folder has drive folder but they are empty

Can you post your /etc/fstab file and/or your /etc/mtab files.

Mine is not working either and I have tried everything I can think of to do.

I tried modprobing ide_generic no luck
I added libata, ata_piix, piix to /etc/modules no luck
I added ide-generic to the above as well and as well to /etc/initrramfs_tools/modules and neither did anything.
I even tried force mounting the drive manually with no luck

my fstab file looks nothing like any other fstab file I have seen. There are NO UUID numbers in it for any drive on the system.

it loads the /proc/proc and unionfs but thats it.

This is my last hurdle. everything else is working fine including my XBOX DVD remote with the dongle modded to USB.
