You have to activate custom backgrounds in the settings menu first (settings --> skin), after that you can set backgrounds for the specific menu options, but I think you have to store them on the local harddrive (no remote folder)

Yep, you can set it up to cycle through a folder of images and as far as I know it doesn't have to be a local folder/image

I've changed all my backgrounds but unfortunately it's not working as smooth as i hoped. The backgrounds sometimes dissapear, leaving the screen all black until you enter the category and "poff" the image is back.

I tried to use images with less size and the result shifted. It works somewhat better.

I have the same issue running on an xbox (latest t3ch release). I'm running at 720p and the images I use are 1280x720.

Are you using the Lite theme?

Try resizing your images.
