Just got an old system in a nice msi small for factor case, p4 2.6 and 1gb of ram. Not the best system I know, but I should suffice for streaming media from my twonkyserver to a non HD tv.

I require a PCI (no agp or pci-e) video card for this, what is a known decent/recommended card for use with ubuntu/xbmc.

What's best on ubuntu ati/nvidia? Im looking at something along the lines of a geforce FX5500?

I have my doubts there are many PCI gfx cards that support opengl1.4+, that should limit your selection quite a bit.

I think you will be better off selling that system for 50 bucks and picking up a used xbox. They are selling in shops for 25 bucks right now.

I have a plan if i get a cheap nvidia card NOT Ati will xbmc work probaly. What i mean is i suffer at the moment from many ssues which are linked to the ati radeon 9700 which i have. I have seen some very cheap AGP nvidia cards out there which i am hoping could solve my problem. I want to be able to use the live xbmc but at the moment i get the dreaded black screen. I am right in thinking with a nvidia card this black screen will go away and XBMC live will load as it should? If this is correct can someone suggest a cheap agp nvidia card

Are you talking about XBOX 360? Don't think so? So which version of XBox will work for XBMC? I thought it only worked for XBox 360. I guess (hope), I'm mistaken.

Instead of worrying too much about how to get my computer working with it, I don't have problem spending $50 to get a used XBox. Can you please tell me what exactly I need to be looking for in my XBox?

@rashid420, you are currently in the "XBMC for Linux" sub-forum (meaning Linux operating-system running on a computer, not on an Xbox), please direct all "Xbox" questions to the Xbox forum, thanks.

FYI; XBMC does not run on Xbox 360. XBMC only runs on the first generation Xbox (all revisions, from 1.0 to 1.6, as long as they are modded).

You have it backasswards. XBMC only runs on Xbox not Xbox360. He was refering to selling the dilapidated PC hardware as the Xbox would perform as well if not better.
