VDPAU API for Linux released by NVIDIA today - GPU hardware accelerated video decoder
cool !!!
now DVD menu naviguation works fine !
jsut have to generate a Live CD !!!

Thanks a lot !!
I have an issue with playing a blue ray in H264.
Q6600 , 8800 GTS 512 (G92), Ubuntu Intrepid. Build 18101.

To reproduce to problem : play H264 .m2ts (20Go) file and accelerate the time(x2 .. x4) => it crashed after a while.
I have play first the killa sample and after the m2ts file
log : http://pastebin.com/m3cc0dd87
I have no core file, maybe because the whole system is crashed ?!

NB : i made the samùe test on another h264 file and acceleration time works fine :
INFO: ffmpeg: Input #0, matroska, from 'smb://FREENAS/media/video/HD/pan.mkv':

hope this help !
I just got my Gigabyte 8400GS it works superb. On my dual core Athlon 2.8GHZ killa.sampla takes something like 7% of both cpu.

I tried to run about 30 movies, half HD and half divix/xvid. All worked good till I tried to run killa.sampla again.XMBC just hanged in that place. I wanted to restart it but after 90 seconds it went further. Here is full log

http://rapidshare.com/files/202515995/ht...c.log.html

See log line number 15754. It hanged at 20:59:27 and go on further on 21:00:58.
NVIDIA Releases 180.35 Drivers

VDPAU updates:

* VDPAU now supports VC-1/WMV acceleration on all GPUs supported by VDPAU; see the README for details.
* Expand the documentation of VDPAU's VdpVideoMixer, in particular regarding how to use the deinterlacing algorithms. Explicitly document "half rate" deinterlacing, which should allow the advanced algorithms to run on more low-end systems. See vdpau.h.
* Implement a "skip chroma deinterlace" option in VDPAU, which should allow the advanced deinterlacing algorithms to run on more low-end systems. See vdpau.h.
* Enhance VDPAU to correctly handle some forms of corrupt/invalid MPEG streams on some GPUs.
* Fix VDPAU to prevent some cases of "display preemption" in the face of missing H.264 reference frames on some GPUs.
* Fix VDPAU to correctly handle VC-1 skipped pictures with missing start codes on some GPUs.
* Fix VDPAU to correctly handle WMV "range reduction" on some GPUs. A minor backwards-compatible API change was made for this; see vdpau.h's documentation for structure field VdpPictureInfoVC1.rangered.
* Fix VDPAU wrapper library to print dlerror() messages when problems occur, which will simplify debugging of driver loading issues.

VDPAU now supports VC-1/WMV acceleration on all GPUs supported by VDPAU; see the README for details. Huh?
what does it mean exactly ?!!

==>
The main addition in the NVIDIA 180.35 driver when it comes to VDPAU support is that VC-1/WMV can now be accelerated on all GeForce 8 GPUs and later. Previously with VDPAU these formats could only be accelerated on a few select GeForce GPUs. Beyond that, VDPAU has picked up a a "skip chroma deinterlace" option, allow VDPAU to handle correctly some forms of corrupt/invalid MPEG streams, and a few more VDPAU fixes.

cool ican keep my 9500GT for the VC-1 !!!!!
i have troubles with playing
8800GTS512 / Ubuntu intrepid / Q6600 Nvidia 180.35 (same things with 180.29)
XBMC VDPAU 18158.

The first sec it's normal, and after xbmc crash (core dump)

I try to play the file : http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/V-codecs/WVC...15Mbps.wmv
xbmc.bin: libavcodec/wma3dec.c*:1611*:*wma3_decode_packet: L'assertion «*0*» a échoué.

I am interested in testing Live with VDPAU but got no time to be building...

It would be much appreciated if somebody uploaded an updated Live build. Try describing it using all the right keywords so google picks it up.

Update: Currently downloading a relatively new Live build, hope it enables VDPAU:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles..._id=664227

Here's a thread on updating drivers in Live package...
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=41192
So reading the previous dozens of pages, what is the actual experience currently? ie What percentage of the time does the VDPAU actually play content successfully?

i have troubles on some samples .....
but don't use it daily !!
Just a question : for issue, i post on this thread ?

Does the VC-1 Flight simulator play well on your builds ?
Does it play on linuxport? Seriously, if you're using a dev branch, at least read the commit notes!
Sorry Sad

i use http://trac.xbmc.org/newticket to declare a problem ? i select SVN and in description i precize vdpau revision xxxx ?

i will test on XBMC Live, but the CPU should be too slow.

i will try to find the commit notes.

I have tried to provide information about the problem :
8800GTS512 / Ubuntu intrepid / Q6600 Nvidia 180.35 (same things with 180.29)
XBMC VDPAU 18158.
The first sec it's normal, and after xbmc crash (core dump)

=> s..t paste bin are no more available !!!!!! ... sorry
I have tested the video http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/V-codecs..._51_15Mbps.wmv with XBMC Live and it works.

VDPAU computer Settings :
8800GTS512 / Ubuntu intrepid / Q6600 Nvidia 180.35 XBMC VDPAU 18158.
i crashes (core dump) 1-2 secs after the beginning of the video.

Are you running 64 bit? There was mention on the FFmpeg SoC commit log of a 64-bit fix - I added that, but it still crashes my (64-bit) xbmc-vdpau anyway.
