so in VLC player u can:
Set Video Mode to OpenGL
Set Video Mode to Direct3d
Set Video Mode to DirectX

does XBMC work in that way? reason is sometimes my Video Card (9800 GTX) plays some HD avi's a little chopyy in OpenGL mode, Direct3D, or DirectX fixes that, (but I like OpenGL better), does XBMC have a Video Mode toggle as well?

No - we only have a opengl output stage at this point.
