Well, I used the guide with a regular Ubuntu install and all went more or less well - for sure the amount of figuring out I needed was MUCH smaller than if I had to figure it all out alone.
As pointed out by some, the only issue I had was with the autostart and the way it kinda took over, but... using CTRL+ALT+Backspace I could get to the GDM login window and from there force a safe GDM session that allowed me to make changes without any problems at all.
I personally don't see where is the fuss and a more constructive attitude would be to point out what could be corrected or improved on the guide and have a cooperative attitude beneficial for everyone. I think the Devs must remember that not everyone is a Linux hacker (I definitely am not...) and some people need someone holding their hand through processes that for many might be a given.
