UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) support
#46
bump...i see forza is still around last login from august 30, hoping he hasn't forgotten about this or that he would submit his code as an abandoned sub project to sf.net if he has decided to stop working on it. i have been anticipating this for quite some time.

can an xbmc stream to other modded xbox's, pc's or upnp av compliant devices like the dlink dsm-320? or is it just a repository and player for local content and cant be networked with other devices?

upnp media servers is not supported as it is. we wish it was, but don't have resources to build our own client.

as far as i can see twonkyvision (and their sdk) is not open source (and we can't use proprietary libraries in xbmc), but even if it was please understand that it would take a lot to get upnp working in xbmc, ...i'm not saying it would be impossible, just very hard work and time-consuming. there are many other products and projects that do provide open source upnp-client code which would as such probably be a much better source than twonkyvision; read this thread (link). if you a c/c++ programmer then you are more than welcomed to jump right in a develop it for xbmc and submit it as a patch.

Will there be support for the MediaRenderer DCP in an upcoming version of XBMC? I already use MediaTomb as my mediaserver but it would be great if I could also use my Nokia N800 as a UPnP control point without the need to turn on my TV.

On the Nokia N800 I use the "media streamer" software which is a UPnP control point and I can select the music/video and send it to any UPnP media renderer.

Unfortunatly XBMC does not support this function. It is not detected by any UPnP control point as a renderer.

Support for this would be really great.

Since the web interface of XBMC has similar functionality the implementation might not even the complicated Smile Smile

Basically I would love to use TwonkyVision with XBMC and have Twonky running on my Mipsel Buffalo Linkstation.

I have tried 4.1, 4.2 and now also the latest 4.3

I tried Various Versions but I can never see my Linkstation from XBMC using the Upnp Function.

I can see via Upnp on the Xbox TwonkyVision running on my Windows PC and also I can see Windows Media Player 11 on my Laptop or another PC in my Network.

If I use a Upnp Browser that is at present still in development on my German Dbox I can see the Twonly Vision on my Buffalo.

I have made some traces with Wireshark and left them here:

http://www.njlworld.com/~pt1/upnptest/Up...e2550.pcap
http://www.njlworld.com/~pt1/upnptest/Up...y_4_2.pcap
http://www.njlworld.com/~pt1/upnptest/Up...y_4_3.pcap
http://www.njlworld.com/~pt1/upnptest/Up...dia11.pcap

I also have had Nero Media Home 2.5.50 running on my Laptop but I could not browse it's contents.

I could not see NeroMediaHome running on another PC in my Network with Version 2.1.11

A dev that coded Upnp support for the German Dbox (Tuxbox Neutrino Linux) Project replied to my traces of communication between XBMC and my Upnp Servers running in the Network.

It seems the UPnP MSEARCH is only replied to if it's send to the Broadcast-Adress.

This is when using Nero Media Hom 2.5.50 and it seems to be against Upnp specification.

Is any Dev interested in this Issue ?

What I have noticed so far is that the DBox with a Upnp Client can see & use my TwonkyVision install on my Buffalo Linkstation and the PC Based installation on my Laptop.

XBMC cannot see my Buffalo Linkstation Twonky install

How can both of them behave differentely ?
