Low FPS with the newer ATI driver, NOT with 8.552 from Ubuntu package manager
#1
What can be wrong here? Other seems to use the same motherboard and gfx, and doesnt have the same problem.

Low FPS => playback is like slow motion..

I installed newest driver with newest svn xbmc and have a 780g chipset with ati HD-3450 graphics last weekend and I have none of your problems. Try to set Vsync in amdcccle to Quality (slider all to the right) and then disable VSync in XBMC...

Good luck...

Well, Vsync in amdcccle I have solved. No tearings.

My problems are some:
1. WHEN I try the newer versions of the drivers, now the Cat 9.1, my XBMC have very low fps, making my videos lock like slow motion.
Dont know WHAT causing this.

2. I want to go back to the driver Ubuntu can install 8.552, from package manager. I dont know if thats svn or what svn stands for?
The problem here is that I no longer have any /usr/share/ati/amdpcsdb, the file where all the setting fron the cccp was stored, and I dont know how to create a new. And stange are, that the option I set seems to be stored some place else, but I dont know why. Its not in xorg.conf..and I have no amdpcsdb...

Nice. I now tried with Vsync disabled in XBMC, and that put the fps in idle from 15 to 60, and when playing a movie, it was for 24 redemtion 24 fps.

And I also saw no tearings.

Nice.
That means I can use the latest version of Cat 9.1 if I only can fix me a new amdpcsdb so I can get rid of my underscan.

This is my xorg.conf now. Shall I fix something?

Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier     "aticonfig Layout"
        Screen      0  "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" 0 0
EndSection

Section "Files"
EndSection

Section "Module"
        Load  "glx"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier   "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
        Option      "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
        Option      "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
        Option      "DPMS" "true"
EndSection

Section "Device"
        Identifier  "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
        Driver      "fglrx"
        Option      "EnableMonitor" "nocrt1,tmds2i"
        Option      "DisplaySetup" "vertical"
    BusID       "PCI:1:5:0"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0"
        Device     "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
        Monitor    "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
        DefaultDepth     24
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport   0 0
                Depth     24
        EndSubSection
EndSection

EDIT:

And my droppes I had with ATI 8.552 now also seems to be gone with the ATI Cat 9.1 Drivers..

Slow motion videos and XBMC gui can be due to wrongly installed fglrx driver and thus no OpenGL acceleration. Last time I tried a new kernel the driver had problems and videos and gui were only a slideshow. Try to give us the output of "glxinfo" from your X environment.

The amdpcsdb shoudl be restored if you do "aticonfig --initial" of "aticonfig --initial -f" or something similar. There is always a backup, or default amdpcsdb.

The tearing is indeed reduced by turning on vsync in cccp and turning it of in xbmc.

This is my device section:
Section "Device"
Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
Driver "fglrx"
BusID "PCI:1:5:0"
Option "Capabilities" "0x00000800"
Option "TexturedVideo" "on"
Option "TexturedVideoSync" "on"
Option "VideoOverlay" "off"
Option "OpenGLOverlay" "off"
Option "Textured2D" "on"
Option "TexturedXrender" "on"
Option "UseFastTLS" "1"
EndSection

It seems unclear if Texturedvideo or OpenGLoverlay faster is. Videooverlay should be slower.
Please read the info on the net for every option, or be aware that this might break things for you, but only temporary.

My slow motion thing was due to I hade vsync always on in both XBMC and CCCP. That was no problem in 8.552 driver, but in new it was... =(.. So now, only "always on" in CCCP and disable in XBMC and no slow motion.

The new drivers Cat 9.1 also solved my problem I had with droppes every now and then.

The only problem I have left now is my underscan. First, I also had a problem getting screen at all, but now I at least got a underscan.

It seems like my amdpcsdb not are put in /usr/share/ati, but in /etc/ati

Code:
#!/bin/sh
aticonfig --set-dispattrib=tmds2i,positionX:0
aticonfig --set-dispattrib=tmds2i,positionY:0
aticonfig --set-dispattrib=tmds2i,sizeX:1280
aticonfig --set-dispattrib=tmds2i,sizeY:720

That works, but only temperary, and the line that have saved my ass before,

aticonfig --set-pcs-val=MCIL,DigitalHDTVDefaultUnderscan,0

dont work any more. The line appears in my amdpcsdc after runned, but are gone after reboot.

This is my amdpcsdb NOW, after a boot up, and script, up here, runned.
