SVN 17700 No sound, Failed to initialized audio device.
#31
I am having the same problem on 8.10 with digital spdif audio. My log is the same as the one from the first page.
I went back to the release since I would rather have audio than hulu working on svn. Is there a way to install an earlier ppa svn package so I could have the best of both worlds?

Hello,

I have the same issue with 17700 on 8.04.
DTS passthrough works, as does AC3. No Stereo pass-through.

Seems like Pulseaudio is choosen, even if I kill it (pulseaudio -k) before starting xbmc.

I would like to give you my log, can a Dev tell me a good grep term to shorten the output?

Excerp:
22:24:18 T:2498751376 M: 29024256 NOTICE: Creating audio device with codec id: 86017, channels: 2, sample rate: 48000, no pass-through

22:25:05 T:2557389712 M: 72376320 NOTICE: Deleting audio codec

Is "no pass-through" intentional?

This is nothing new, XBMC tries to open PulseAudio connection but should fail silently and revert to ALSA, this is the way it have always been with pulseaudio, Please post full Debug Log as Tslayer said.

tslayer Wrote:Also, for those having the issues, are you on 8.10 or 8.04? I'm on 8.04 and don't have issues. And no pulseaudio here.

Im on 8.04 had no issues before the last ppa, must have been the last PPA that did something. I had the previous release installed and it worked fine.

Last log when i start a movie and get the error.

No, that does not help. elupus put in a bunch of fixes since 17776 (relating to audio).

Try latest again and provide new, uncut log.

Thanks.

hal, and your issue is different and another known issue. Restart XBMC and play MP3 first (without playing AC3/DTS first).

It should work then.

No, it doesn't. The MP3 file was the first one.
And I would try 17776, but the PPAs are (understandable) not update (yet).

And by the way, with MP3 audio the video is stuttering like hell....

Use SVN and build yourself.

Anyhow, your issue sounds different than what others are reporting here.

I will, meanwhile I have to figure out why I have a build problem.
