Doesn't the CNN plugin use live rtmp streams?
(btw,thank you for any potential work you might do on this plugin. Even if it is impossible, I appreciate the willingness regardless.)

try replacing rtmp:// with http:// for the final url.

the cnn plugin is broken so i can't check what urls thelive streams were, but i may have been thinking mms:// -> http://

Thats a shame. I used the CNN plugin to watch Obama's last address. CNN and Fox both have separate streams for individual events. It was wonderful to watch anything without commercial breaks. IE: Live stream of president's speech, without interuption.
I hope someone can fix/solve the streaming issue for atleast one of the US live news outlets.
(Footnote: I honestly don't care which network, I just want to be able to watch live broadcasts on xbmc, instead of having to turn on my laptop to watch a live stream on the internet.)
