sub forums in "Script/Plugin Help and Support"
#1
Hi

I was wondering if it was possible to setup at least one subforum under "Script/Plugin Help and Support". I look after the IPlayer plugin and currently it uses just one thread with over 100 pages for all discussion. A sub fourum would provide a great way to break out the various discussions about this plugin without these discussions getting lost among the dialog around other plugins and scripts.

There are about 6 other plugins/scripts such as the Hulu plugin that use a primary thread with over 200 postings that could probably find good use for a subforum too.

Regards
Dink

I agree the current situation isn't ideal, but I don't think subforums are the answer.

The main problem is so many plugins/scripts become popular then stop working (hulu, ninja video, etc) that we would have tons and tons of subforums for non working addons. Even if we had a moderator to add and remove subforums as necessary, the amount of merging and movin of threads that would be going on would make things just as bad as they are now.

IMHO people need to use the issue tracker on google code for bugs and feature requests, and use the release thread for general help & discussion.

You can edit your first post and add in a FAQ or other instructions the users may need. We may eventually give scripters more rights so they can moderate their own threads, but more thought needs to be put into that first.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search and search the forum before posting.

Exactly, look at skinning forum and what a mess that is with subforums aswell. An external bugtracker would be ideal..

Also people should search more before posting, since my guess is that there are loads of threads already been answered.

Ok I'll look to tie the thread closer to the plugin's google code page. To do this though I will need write access to the first post in the thread.

make a [Release] IPlayer (or whatever) thread and I'll merge them so you have the first post.
edit: or better yet make a release thread and I'll lock the old one since it is too big to be useful.
Post here when you have done so.

Thanks for feedback guys.

I have created a new thread with a proper first posting at http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?p=3...post338533

Can someone lock down the old thread please.

Cheers
