[RELEASE] iPlayer - BBC Video and Music Plugin (UK only!)
Hi there,

I have tried the following on XBMC for mac and also Raspbmc for the Raspberri py. On both I get the following:

- Download and install plug in (tried a few of the latest versions)
- Go and play any video, hurray it works!
- Stop it
- Go an play another video ... oh, you get an "video failed to play check log" error

Rebooting may fix the issue, sometime, other it don't. Sometimes the last video you played works if you play it again, others it doesn't.

I saw that if I forced the limelight (limeline?, I cannot remember) network then the issue may be resolved but sometimes after playing a video a residual "sound" remains even when you are back in the menu. The other two networks fail immediatly.

I have tried to check the log but I can see the script grabbing all the info and then is simply says something like "ERROR rmtp failed" and that's it, I have no more detail on what happened.

In case you wonder, I have checked this from the UK and also with a UK proxy so it is not related to the location I am at.

Has somebody seen something similar before? I used to be able to simply download this script and watch live tv, etc. Now it seems to be completly broken and work randomly at times. Once again, first time you play a video it works fine, it is after that that everything seems to fail and even rebooting it won't work (until it does for no special reason!).

Thanks for your help,

Y.

A few more tests, I just installed XBMC on a Linux Machine (Ubunto 13, XBM 12 Frodo). I added the iPlayer plugin and started a few videos. All worked fine. Then I tried to use the "watch live" and selected "BBC ONE" and it didn't work (no error message just says Working and nothing happens). I then went back to the videos and some didn't work while the ones I had already selected worked fine. A movie I tried (Virus) wrked the other day on another setup I have Mac) but wasn't working here (again, the "working" icon shows on the bottom left but then it dissapears and nothing happens).

An example of an error message:
Code:

full debug log (via http://xbmclogs.com/) needed please (running latest iplayer plugin). Please also read back a few pages on the forum for some info regarding live streams.
Excellent add-on, video is perfect, sound synced, navigation is brilliant.

However is there a way to get dolby digital 5.1 sound, my ps3 iplayer app has this so I know the stream is there, I just can't find anything in the settings.

I know some folks on this thread have discussed accessing the stuff outside the UK.

I know that Tunlr works for all non-live stuff yet you can watch live with this method:

https://tunlr.net/forums/topic/how-to-bb...ing-tunlr/

Yet it seems this method only works with the HDS streams not the RTMP the plugin is attempting to do.

Is there anyway to get the HLS streams to be implemented into the plugin?

EDIT: Just seen in another thread, XBMC doesn't support HDS. So I guess nevermind.

Are you sure they're actually streaming 5.1 and it's not your PS3 pumping 2.0 to all speakers?

Maybe you're right, my Amp seems to be detecting a Dolby Digital signal, when playing all programmes through iplayer, usually it switches between 2.0 and 5.1 automatically but with iPlayer it's always 5.1, I guess it's a PS3 issue.

The only streams we use from the BBC site are 2.0 AAC. Not spotted any 5.1 at least, at least via our interface.

Happy new year.

2.5.3 is out

Changes:

2.5.3
* subtitle timing fixes (thanks to christian)
* resume performance improvements and fixes (thanks to doug)
* improved episode sorting (thanks to doug)

Thanks.
Hi there, first of all wonderful job with the add-on, works like a charm!

But I'm having problems with the subtitles, not even sure if this is actually a problem caused by the add-on or somewhere else, but I think it is the right place to ask - here we go:

Some Subtitles are working, some are not, for example "East Enders" Subtitles are working, "Sherlock" Subtitles are not. I tried to figure out why with debug log and all that stuff but in the end that didn't help me at all, so I looked into the XML Sourcefiles for the Subtitles and I think there is the problem, different file formats. Check this out:

East Enders (Working Subtitles):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/subtitles/n...317001.xml

Sherlock (Not working Subtitles):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/subtitles/n...734545.xml

So, now I am stranded. As I can see, the East Enders Subtitles are complying the BBC Standards found here http://www.bbc.co.uk/guidelines/futureme...ting.shtml and the Sherlock Subtitles are not. Whose fault is it? Why is BCC delivering Subtitles not following their own Standards?

And the - for me - most imporatant question: Is there something that can be done? If so, what?

Any answers, hints, insights are appreciated.

Kind regards,
Alex

Exactly the same issue here.
Hope a fix can be found.

thanks in advance

Well, it looks like you answered you own question. One subtitle file is following the standards and works and the other one isn't. iplayer converts the subtitle files to a format supported by xbmc. if there is a different source format it isn't going to work, without some extra code to do that.
Well I can code a bit, but where to start. Can you point me in the right direction?
project site http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-iplayerv2

function to convert subs is called download_subtitles (line 718 onwards) http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-iplayerv2/...default.py

regular expression based, would be better if it used xml.etree.ElementTree or beautifulsoup i guess.
Thx, I will have a look at it!
