Me being known to use huge amounts of time and effort to solve problems like this, I have this time chosen a very simple work-around that I would like to mention.
I use the advanced launcher plugin to launch firefox from within xbmc - streaming works and problem solved.
If anyone wants to do this, a few tips might be handy:
1. Create a new profile in firefox (on linux this is done by the command line argument -ProfileManager)
2. Set the start page to tv.nrk.no or tv.nrk.no/direkte/nrk1 or whatever
3. Put firefox in full-screen and then exit with ALT-F4
4. In advanced launcher, make firefox start with the arguments "-P xbmc -no-remote"
I also think the advanced launcher plugin is marked as broken in the official repositories, but a quick google search should help you on how to install angelcry's repository manually.
Hope this saves at least one soul some hours of frustration :-)
EDIT: I am running frodo 12.2 on xubuntu 13.10, installed from ppa.
