@AaronD, the prefered method for nfo's is that they be named the same as the movie as that is how XBMC prefers it also. MC relies on the connection between the movie's filename & the nfo's filename to be the same.
In saying that there is an option in the Movie preferences advanced to output the nfo as movie.nfo....
I would assume that you are using folders as well so do you have the use folder names for scraping selected in the movie preferences?
Do you need your nfo's saved as movie.nfo? If not I would run a file renamer program over your data & get it to rename the movie.nfo's to be the same as the actual movie title.

We can recrape individual tags & they don't effect the other tags in the file so when we add the ability to rescrape the year it should leave the genres well alone..
