[RELEASE] xTweet - a Twitter Script for XBMC (can update your Facebook status too)
#16
Gamester17 Wrote:Boxee also has this feature where it adds URL to the item you are watching / listening to:

Some examples:

For movies:

"watching Pulp Fiction on XBMC Media Center http://imdb.com/title/tt0110912"
So your Facebook status then automatically then gets updated with:
"Andreas is watching Pulp Fiction on XBMC Media Center http://imdb.com/title/tt0110912"
Cool

A great promotional vehicle for XBMC too.. Big Grin

cnschulz Wrote:i mean automatic as in me not having to do anything... like scrobbling to last.fm from a media player for example.
Then xTweet should have an option setting to not tweet adult (porn) movies if one does not to tweet about those Wink

w3__ Wrote:Awesome! Is this available via the SVN Repo Installer? Can you put it in there if not? Smile
Good idea, I'll look into how projects are added to the installer.

@cliffyreddog:
I took a look into this today and can confirm that it is issue with v1.2. I've already coded the fix and I'll be including it with v1.3 release (hopefully by tomorrow). Or if you're in a hurry, you can always grab it from svn ;-)

The full "automatic" tweeting is definitely something I plan on integrating in the near future. Querying media links and including them in the tweets shouldn't be too difficult, would increase exposure to XBMC (yay!) and also give the tweets a more substance. I'll see about squeezing that guy in too.

As far as the recommendation feature goes, it sounds like it may be integrated directly into Boxee. I'll have to poke around Boxee a little (don't be jealous XBMC: she means nothing to me!) and see what I can do.

Keep the ideas and feedback coming, everyone!

Stay tuned for an update any time now with furthered direct messaging support and the aforementioned fix.

looks and works good. Just personal opinion, but I'd like to see the posts looks more like:

joebrady42: is watching X-Men Origins: Wolverine using XBMC (posted using xTweet)

I don't care for the fact that "#xTweetNow #xbmc" is sent to the facebook update also.

Wonder if you could also pull what platform XBMC is running onHuh?

In order to get the via "xTweet" thingy working properly, the script needs to use the OAuth version of the python twitter script, as per http://apiwiki.twitter.com/FAQ#HowdoIget...pplication

The OAuth version of python twitter can be found here http://code.google.com/p/oauth-python-twitter/

EDIT: i should point out, i really don't plan on using this much until it does show that it comes from xTweet. it really defeats the purpose of using it if it's not there.

Could we also implement an Option to get back out of the Keyboard or other menu's when you accidently accessed these... For some reason the BACK Button on the DVD Remote wont let you get back.

Great stuff, V1.3 works well, thanks

Will be keen for the other changes you mentioned and the auto update function in a future release

I noticed after updating the status, the message saying 'status updated' wouldn't disappear until I put down my logitech remote and instead used my keyboard to press esc. I'll try a few different things next time I update it and not really a problem as such as I can easily configure the remote to emulate the keyboard esc press anyway.

I was a little surprised none of the existing buttons I have programmed in my remote would make the message go away though. Perhaps if the message could pop up and only stay on screen for a few seconds - might be more suitable.. anyway just a thought.. thanks again!

@AsylumFunk, have you by the way looked into the python code of the third-party "Bitter" app (script) for Boxee?
http://blog.boxee.tv/2009/06/15/bitter-a...for-boxee/

Does it feature anything that xTweet does not? Huh

The place the tweet comes from is very important to me. If my followers see a tweet from "txt" they know I can't get to a computer with internet access. If they see one from "TwitterGadget", they know I'm probably at school. If they see one from "Twitpic", "Tumblr" or "twitterfeed", they know they'll be going to an external website. (When it comes available) if they see a tweet from "Xbox 360" they'll know I'll probably be playing games, no matter what the content of the tweet is.
Where the tweet comes from is very important to me because it plays a significant part in my communication with other tweeple. Having a tweet say it comes from "web" when it doesn't is a big problem for me, it's as simple as that.

However, because I believe in taking action when complaining about something, I will gladly email Twitter to further this cause Smile

I've had family & friends visiting the past week or so, so sorry for the lack of updates.

This sounds like what pt-1 experienced: check my earlier post (#23) for the details.

I hadn't seen it before, but took a look after your mention. It's pretty bare in the feature department; in fact, its only feature is search, which is next on my hit-list :-)

Ahhhh, I follow ya. I've been throwing some ideas around and may have a solution within the next release or two :-) And thanks for supporting the cause ;-)

I've got a few new features added to the repository (followers/following, user timelines, and a few other minor things) which I'll finish testing this afternoon. Beyond that, I'll just need to update the translation strings and I'll have v1.4 ready to roll :-D

great script!! i have found a small bug using the MC360 skin. when you are typing an update, the skin is only able to show 40 characters, and is does not follow the cursor after that. i know this is a skin problem as it works fine with pm3. how can i fix this in mc360?

thanks?

Thanks Meez!

Solid observation; this would appear to be skin-related. Off the top of my head, I'm not sure what would need tweaked to correct the behavior in MC360.

That said, I would suggest bringing this up to the developer(s) behind the MC360 skin, as I would venture to guess that this is also affecting other use cases in XBMC.
