[Live] Installing XBMC to a 'fixed' 8GB CF Card.
#1
Hi experts,

I'm trying to install XBMC (9.04.1) to my 8GB compact flash card. The problem I have is that the XBMC installer detects my cf card as a 'removable disk'. So I'm just able to install the live edition on my card.

I use a sata to cf adapter to connect my cf card to my Zotac ION ITX A board.
On the following image you can see that XBMC detects my cf card as a removable media:

Is there a way to do a 'hard' installation on my cf card? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Isn't there a setting in the bios for how it should be handled?

For a CF card you want it to be detected as a reovable drive. The only difference between how it is installed on a removed or fixed drive is whether there is a swap file or not.

CF cards are prone to ware, like other flash based memory so you most certainly do not want the swap file on it or it won't be working very long.

I think your confused between the terms live and persistent. Even when installed without a swap file settings you change and things you add to the library are saved as normal when you switch on and off.

I run my XBMC off a CF card installed as a removable drive and it works just fine.

Does that all make sense?
