Which Media Managers has the option to rename my movie files?
#1
Question
I have played with an older version of Media Companion

Is there a Media Manager that will rename my Movie files?

It seems that some of my files have bad names and continually get matched to the wrong movie, is there something that will fix the names as well as get the movie info?

Also it would be kind of nice to remove all of the tags from my files (group names, rip formats and the like)

Ember Media Manager. It does everything for your movies, except making the popcorn.

Yeah but have you read this? Smile

Well, I'm just using my own media renamer to rename the files and let XBMC do the rest. It gets a very good match quota. A few movies had issues but the match rate was probably around 98% or higher for me. I tried ember but had plenty of wrong matches and movies where I had to manually enter the name to finally find the correct movie so I'm not a big fan of media managers.

I have downloaded EMM, and I am running it on my filesystem.

So far it is working well.

I have got it to move all my files into folders, and it is cleaning up the names nicely.

Problem: I use XBMC (on xbox) I dont use library mode. Now when I go into: Videos, then "Movies" (SMB share to \\server\movies). I see just a bunch of folders.

Before I had a flat structure, and lots of moviename.tbn files which displayed nice covers, now I get a huge list of boring folders.

How do I get XBMC to snap to life? I am sure it is supposed to do something neat with all of the cover art and info in the new structure...

please help.

Try using library mode...

OK so I have library mode on, I have changed to PM3 instead of PM3.HD

I have got some stuff showing up, but it still seems to insist on going out to the internet to get the media data, instead of using all the stuff that EMM pulled down.

I have tried the "initiate XBMC update" button in EMM and can hear the xbox HDD tick away for about 1 second. But nothing seems to get put into XBMC.

I must still be missing something.

I just scan for new info and all the stuff that EMM or MIP has put in my folders shows up. EMM does a great job grabbing the trailers and making extrathumbs for my views. I don't know that moving from PM3.HD to PM3 would make a difference in what shows up. I don't use an xbox so I am not sure.

I think I have it...

because EMM has put all my movies into folders, I need to set the scraper to "Scan recursivly" then "Scan for new content" on the share.

There you go. Like I said, everytime I add something to a folder I have to scan for new content and then everything is fine. Hope everything works out for you, I don't know how well it looks on the xbox, but if it's even close to streaming to a comp then it should look pretty nice.

got it working on the xbox, it looks great.

I still have a few issues, mainly to do with "library" mode.

previously I always used the file view.

I have a few shares setup:
Movies
DownloadedTV
RecordedTV
MusicVideos

This works great as it is easy to find stuff.

RecordedTV is a nightmare, where previosuly my files sorted great by name:
07-17 - Spicks and Specks ABC1.mpg
07-18 - Rage ABC1-1.mpg
07-18 - Rage ABC1.mpg
07-18 - Rugby Union PRIME.mpg
07-19 - Bones PRIME.mpg
07-19 - Glee SC10 Canberra.mpg

12-01 - Enough Rope with Andrew Denton ABC1.mpg
12-02 - Gough Whitlam- In His Own Words SBS.mpg

Now they dont exist in Library Mode, is there anything I can do with my RecordedTV?

They added support in the TVDB scraper for loading files named by airdate:

I think if you append the year to each of your airdates (you can do this easily using a batch file renamer utility), it should work.
