i've installed xbmc with the package installer.
everything works as it should.

yesterday i tired to update.
i've downloade a new deb package from http://www.sshcs.com/xbmc/ and installed xbmc with "double-click".
(i didn't remove the first version).

after installing, the vdpau is no more available and i can't write anything into the database.

so i decided to remove the "new" version.
the old one was still available, after removing the "new" one.
vdpau was available again but the database was "corrupt".

to get it working again, i've deleted the userdate in ./xbmc

did al this happen, because i didn't remove the old version from the package-installer?

The http://www.sshcs.com/xbmc/ builds don't have VDPAU enabled on them.

Not sure about the database, it's possible that some database changes were initiated by installing the latest build (i vaguley remember the devs saying some changes would be made and that MIP / EMM had to take it into account) but it's just as likely that you were simply unlucky.

that is something i realy didn't know.
