The Bandaid fix seems to do that very thing, but it doesn't seem to allow running of option 2, unless something has changed since I last tried it. One other user has reported that he ran Option 1 and 2 and it worked, but had audio problems. Now Im really boggled.
The problem seems to be the nvidia driver. I was testing under jaunty, not karmic. It seems the nvidia driver causes problems with xorg, which in turn prevents xbmc from running. Take a look at the xorg.log here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/50769/xbmscript/Xorg.0.log
The Karmic capable version of xbmscript is taking shape nicely. Still on course for a release. I'll look into the rollback idea.
