uPNP problems sometime after rev21142

I played 'binary search' with sshcs's nightly builds.

Build 27258 works.

Build 27290 does not work.

http://trac.xbmc.org/changeset?old_path=...&new=27290

sshscs doesn't have any builds in between those two revisions.

I just spent the last hour playing 'binary search' with sshcs's nightly xbox builds of XBMC.

Revision 27258 works.

Revision 27290 does not work.

There are no other binary builds for the xbox for revisions between them.

Good stuff Josh! - my weekend was gone before I knew it and sshcs seemed to be having a few problems when I did have 5 minutes...

I think the rev numbers are wrong, as there are surely no relevant changes between those 2... Did you check the number inside XBMC's System Info itself?

Quote:NOTICE: Starting XBMC4Xbox. Built on Jan 28 2010 (SVN:UNKNOWN, compiler 1310)
That's from the log for sshcs's build labelled 27258.

The build dates are:
Quote:Xbox - Build - 27290 - Updated on 1/29/2010 8:15:46 PM
Xbox - Build - 27258 - Updated on 1/28/2010 10:11:25 PM

sshcs Wrote:A few things. I understand that the build # and revision # do not seem to be jogging. It's out of my hands. SVN is reporting higher than the builds #'s indicate.
Sad

By the way, the URL to these builds are
http://sshcs.com/xbmc/binaries/builds/XB..._27258.zip
http://sshcs.com/xbmc/binaries/builds/XB..._27290.zip

I also have noticed that the revisions on the nightly builds do not match the revisions within XBMC when downloaded and installed.

The matter of revision numbers is a bit complex.

All branches of XBMC share the one SVN. When ANY of these receive an update, the revision number of the SVN goes up.

T3CH build archives (as in, the RAR/ZIP files that contain the files) are labeled according to latest Xbox branch revision number at the time of compiling. All you need to do is look at the revision number in the archive name, and you've got the exact figure. Easy.

The SSHC build archives are named according to the very latest SVN revision number. They will only be accurate for one particular branch within that SVN, and there's no quick way to determine which one that is without looking at the SVN changelog.

Now you might be thinking, "why not just run XBMC and check the revision number it reports?". Well, the reason for THAT is, builds from r18953 through to r28565 get it wrong. Sometimes they're hundreds of revisions off, so getting those particular builds of XBMC to tell you their revision number is pointless.

To determine the revision number of an SSHC build (using the Xbox branch as an example, for rather obvious reasons):

1. Check the SVN number in the archive title.

2. Take this link, put your revision number from the archive title in place of the X's, and load it up:

http://trac.xbmc.org/log/branches/xbox/?rev=XXXXX

3. The top entry in the list that appears is the actual Xbox SVN number.

OK i tested the latest build from sshcs on my XBOX and it runs fine with upnp!

sshcs build is 29158, XBOX build is 29124.

So sshcs build 29138 and 29126 should be the same XBOX builds, because there were no changes since then for the XBOX...

I can discover my ps3mediaserver 1.20.409 and can watch mkv 720p files in MEncoder only mode. My ps3mediaserver runs on WinXP SP3 with an Celeron E3400 without any stuttering or problems. Audio is AC3 5.1, coming out of my sound system Smile

Anyway, the upnp is a bit bitchy in discovering, sometimes he cannot discover the upnp server. It is important that ps3mediaserver has discovered the xbmc and rendering client. If not, i cannot connect!
If this happens, best is to deleted the Database from XBMC, restart XBMC and ps2mediaserver. Mostly then it worked...

If it is up and running, there are no problems at all...

Do you have made the same experiences?

I installed the same build. I can enable the UPnP service without XBMC crashing. However, when I try to access the media server (in my case, through my Playstation 3), XBMC locks up. Checking the log, it's the same problem.

OK now i powered down the xbox and wanted to use it again, it crashes...

WHY?

Here is the log:
Code:
00:13:08 M: 55709696  NOTICE: Starting XBMC4Xbox.  Built on Apr  9 2010 (SVN:29124, compiler 1310)

EDIT:

I found the solution:

The webserver must be turned on in network settings and running in order to use uPNP renderer. If it's turned off, it won't work!

I turned that out to save resources, but does not work...

Hehe, anyway, this is the solution!!!

Would appreciate if anybody can confirm that!

Interestingly, after enabling the HTTP server, I can also now stream media via UPnP.
#73
Turning on HTTP server also works for me to prevent locking up when accessing my UPNP (PlayOn) Server with latest build. Thanks for the tip!
#74
Can someone test whether any of the other platforms (Windows/Linux/MacOSX) suffers from the same issue?

I tried quick and dirty this build:
http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/win32/...-trunk.exe

Works fine here with webserver disabled.
