playback errors on new Acer Revo
#1
Well, I've just installed xbmclive on an Acer Revo and seem to be having a couple of different playback issues.

First, while playing back mkv files made from hdtv captures from my hdhomerun tuner & windows media center I get hundreds & thousands of dropped frames.

Second, if I try to play back the mpg file I loose audio.

I've gone through the sticking for posting issues and have the following:

1. OS: Linus 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686
2. architecture: i686
3. install method: XBMCLive USB modified for the NVidia drives here:
http://www.fusedimages.com/xbmc.zip
and discussed here:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...ive+nvidia
4: SVN: 9.04.1 r20654 (compiled May 25 2009)
5. reproduce: playback any mpg recorded by my MCE and hdhomerun tuner or playback any mkv encoded from the file causing the first problem
6. log is here
http://ubuntu.pastebin.com/m7de0c66
7. backtrace not required as xbmc isn't crashing

Playback Problems:
1. Video codec and container. per mediainfo
V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC
x264
encoded with handbrake

2.Audio codec and container.
AC3
MKV

playback problem 2:
MPEG Video
AC3
MPG

Any help how be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping the first set of errors have something to do with my encoding and I'm hoping the second set are because of something in my setup.

Thanks in advance.

OK, the first set of errors (with the MKV files) is entirely an encoding problem. I had a 720p broadcast with 59.94 fps. I needed to drop the frame rate (why do the networks do this?).

The second problem is still out there. Why do I loose the audio on the mpg file?

thanks in advance.

Try entering 'plughw:0,3' as teh audio device string

I changed both "audio output device" and "passthrough output device" and it still didn't work.

Any other suggestions?

wanted to go give this a bump to see if anyone had any thoughts about my second issue.

It seems odd that I'd have problems playing back uncompressed mpg files captured from my cable provider.

I thought it might help to link a sample file.

The audio goes out of sync almost immediately and the video is very jerking.

Thanks in advance.

could this be the deinterlacing issue mentioned on the homepage in relation to the alpha 9.11 release?

Try the alpha release when it becomes available via PPA (soon). The version you were using is fairly old and lots has changed.

I've actually moved to the Oct 10 build R23652 and still have the same problem.

I'm watching the 9.11 news but I dont' want to jump in if this is the same problem that has already been identified.

thanks.
