External USB DVD ROM
#1
My XBMCbuntu have a internal DVD read/writer (IDE) and an external USB DVD reader. In XBMC I only see the internal one.

Can I in some way configure the system so that I can see both?

If not, how do I "replace" my internal one with my external one?

At least I can now switch between the internal and the external by editing /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules

Hi,

I have an LG GP08 lite USB DVD player, it works from boot but won't play DVD's in XBMC. I installed XBMCLive from a cd using it so i know it works but if i press play in XBMCLive 9.11 it doesn't do anything. I don't get an error message but if i take out the DVD and press play it says please insert a DVD or something similar.

Any ideas?

I just installed xbmc live on a Acer Aspire Revo AR1600 and everything works great using the following two articles http://a8t8.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!251...!804.entry and http://lifehacker.com/5391308/build-a-si...-the-cheap the only problem I am having is that I cannot get xbmc live to see a USB DVD drive and I am a windows person so not very knowledgeable with configuring drives in linux. Does anyone have instructions on allowing a USB DVD drive to be seen as a source, I have many DVD-R's with divx files backed up and the only way at the moment I can view them is to share a dvd drive on my windows machine and put the dvd in that drive so I can use it on xbmc. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You mean "see" as in "play videos"? How did you manage it? I see my external USB drive but it won't play videos.

Ive had a look at current (and some not so current) posts regarding lack of external USB DVD support in XBMC. I can see there is a solution but Im unsure how to get it to work

Im new to linux but have managed to get everything else up and running and am pleased with the results. I used the latest release of Mint and then adapted the Ubuntu instructions to get XBMC up and running. Where Im coming unstuck is a lack of knowledge regarding installing the patch file for the DVD problem (use_cdio_system_headers_on_non_win32.patch) Basically I dont know how to install the patch.

Can any one please point me in the right direction Smile
