"The new $599 Mac mini configuration gets fitted with a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo CPU (up from 2GHz), 2GB of RAM (up from 1GB) and a 160GB hard drive (up from 120GB). The $799 build features a 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of memory (up from 2GB) and a 320GB hard drive (same as before), and both machines sport the same GeForce 9400M GPU and 8x SuperDrive as they did in March."

Seems like a pretty good deal for the $599 unit.
Anyone have any success with the Mac Mini's? Does linux run alright on it? Is it overly complicated to configure? Does the built in IR port work with different remotes?

I was thinking about picking one up along with one of these: http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/05/kanex...i-to-hdmi/

I haven't set mine up with linux as yet, just running OS X. Reading into it when I got the unit, there were some issues with shutting down and restarting under linux, as well as getting audio and wifi to work (early 2009 model). The situation might have changed now, so I'd be most interested to hear if anyone has a success story with linux.

As a hardware unit they are fantastic though, super quiet, compact, look great. I'd recommend for sure.

I actually installed ubuntu as a dual boot option on my mini last night. I'll report back when I have installed all the software and stuff on it, but so far ir's been pretty smooth with the 9.10 beta, just gotta sort out the reboot issue and install XBMC.

Awesome! Keep us posted!
Did you install that newest kernel that you linked? The one that was supposed to resolve the reboot issue?

Not yet, I actually did run into an issue, installed grub on the default partion in the installer and had to wipe my hdd (oops, should have read the instructions more carefully). Gonna give it another go over the weekend, and I'll be sure to report back.
