[LIVE] XBMC forget password
#1
Hi there,

i install XBMCLive on my ASRock ION330 for few days.

After the install i can login with xbmc/xbmc over ssh and local console.

Now after a couple of days the login promt show me that the password ist incorrect, but i dont change the password.

Whats wrong with it? Did XBMC forgot my password?

Hope you can help me

You wouldn't by chance have your ASRock ION330 set up to your internet connection, in a configuration that would allow port 22 to be exposed to the internet?

If thats the case, odds are someone got access to it and changed the password.

Anyway, to recover a lost password under Ubuntu:
Do this: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-recover...buntu.html to obtain access to the machine.

Then use the passwd command to change the password of xbmc:
passwd xbmc

Thanks or the fast answer.

No chance, port 22 is closed in router

And i forgot to say:

I try to boot in the single mode and change the password for xbmc but on the next reboot the same as before Sad

Any other ideas?

I had the same thing happen a few days ago. I wish I could find the web page I visited to find the fix, but I've just done a clean install of Windows 7 and my web history is gone.

It was a Ubuntu issue with the "shadow" password file. I used Filezilla to SFTP into XBMC using the root account and edited (actually added, it was missing) the password for the "xbmc" user in etc/passwd.

Information
what about resetting password?

1) You should boot from live cd
2) mount filesystem where /etc is located (typically /dev/sda1)
3) vi /etc/passwd
4) remove x in second column
root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash -> root::0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash
5) save changed /etc/passwd file
6) reboot and login - system will not require any password for user without x

Guys,

Can someone please help I'm dying with this thing.

I don't know my login I've not used command line since I installed it.
I'm running xbmc live on an acer revo and I don't know what user I can use.
Xbmc/xbmc doesn't work nor does leaving it blank. Is there a way to reset passwords without having any login?

Please please please help
