MKV files stops playing

Big Grin
While streaming MKV files to to my Acer Revo with live installed, some mkv files will fail in the same stop every time while streaming it from my mac. If I put that same file on the revo's harddrive it plays the file all the way through with no problem. In some files it does it at 90 mins and other files 30 min into the film. I am running the 9.11 alpha release and Im running out of ideas. I would rather stream all my videos instead of installing an external hard drive.

Anyone have any ideas?:confused2:

Thanks!

UPDATE:

john.morales Wrote:I was having the same issue with the latest live CD, the symptoms were:

using a samba share from my OSX machine.

I was able to fix it by editing the /var/db/samba/smb.shares, adding:

strict locking = no

to the share I was using.

Hope this helps.

I would like to thank and confirm that john.morales solution did fix my streaming issue with my Mac OSX 10.6Big Grin

Ping_Localhost seems to be having a similar problem when sharing via windows 7.

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?p=437365

His work around was to use ftp server instead of smb and that work around also is working for me.

I had the same issue with OSX samba share,

and my solution was to disable the "strict locking" option from samba share config.

@shiree1 , Is this something I change in smb.conf in OSX or XBMC?

I have had this problem from alpha1 to beta2. Is this still an issue with RC1? Sometimes the video will play for 5 minutes then stop, other times it will go as long as 90 minutes. The stable release works fine, and the windows version works fine. Seems like something happened with the switch to karmic.

I was having the same issue with the latest live CD, the symptoms were:

1) after a certain amount of time (40-50) minutes into a 720p mkv, XBMC would exit to the video list screen.
2) Trying to copy the movie locally from the file manager would end abruptly.
using a samba share from my OSX machine.

Log file showed:
Read - Error( -1, 22, Invalid argument )
CFileSMB::Close closing fd 1000

I was able to fix it by editing the /var/db/samba/smb.shares, adding:

strict locking = no

to the share I was using.

Since I don't know the proper way to change samba settings on a mac, but I do know in linux changes to the config file require a reload, I reloaded sharing by turning off and back on File Sharing in the Network settings.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I having the same issue and I am running on a Windows XP sp3 box and issue star occurring as soon as I start using 9.11 that I just installed yesterday and its seam to happen to some file mkv files and not all of them.

I also try to rename file on original location just to see if its wasa a cache issue but still no luck so I try with SMB same issue and also via map drive in windows to same location and still same issue.

I was trying to find the strict locking option in windows but could not find it so do any of you would know were can I find it since changing to FTP is my last resort since I do not want to manage 2 type of share since all this are working fine on my other tv using a Asus o Play.

Thanks Smile

Update:

After doing some testing, SMB sharing DOES work properly when I stream from a windows PC. However, when I stream from my UnRAID server, it stops and goes back to the video menu after a random amount of time. That sucks for me because that's where all my movies are Sad.

I did some more test and I put my Router to 100 Full duplex, my Vista boxe where are my file are located and my HTPC with XMBC at 100 full Duplex and now everything is Fine as suggested by somebody else on the Forum. Its bizarre that it was working before but like I say if its works do ask question and Enjoy Tongue lol

Good luck to all with this issue.

The same just happened to me. My router was set to 100Mb Full duplex, so there probably is another issue here...

setup: xbmc 9.11 final, karmic, acer aspire revo, buffalo linkstation live nas

Seems others are having a problem... there is a post in the unraid forums about this...

My issue is not only did it drop the movie but also locked up my whole unraid server forcing me to do a hard reboot and sometime have to recalc parity (24 hours).

I am in the process of testing nfs shares to see if that works better.
