Serious bug in 9.11 Alpha2 with gui resolution changin

In alpha2, if you specifically select the WORST resolution in the settings it might on reboot choose the best one.

Thanks for the fix.

I understand the problems with multimonitor setups, but i think that's not too common. I think the 99% of the users use it with single monitor setup.

Thank you Jonathan once again, keep up the great work,

Cheers, Alan

Just a question Jonathan:

Where is the default resolution (in my case 1080p50) is defined ? What Modeline does it use ? Ca we reconfigure it ? I tried ModeLines.xml in xbmc dir, but with no success.

Have you guys added this to xorg.conf?

Option "DynamicTwinView" "False"
Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = Native"

This makes xbmc boot into my native 1080p60 resolution and switch to 1080p24 on 24hz content. Haven't tried 25/50hz, but i assume it will correctly do that as well.

Prior to adding these 2 options i had very weird resolutions/refresh rates to choose from in the gui.

Yeah,

Those are in my xorg.conf. It still defaults to 1080p 50hz, which means choppy video.

Editing the entry so it would use the 1920x1080 60hz options would be an excellent solution if it is possible.

I have no problem with adjust refresh rate function, but the default 1080p50 mode somehow differs from the modeline i have in my xorg.conf for 50hz display.

I would just like to know what modeline does it use.

Annybody know a workaround how i can access my XBMC.
Right now it is on a ressolution my tv does not support and i have a black screen.
Is deleting .xbmc the only option?

Let Ubuntu make a new xorg-conf by using sudo nvidia-xconfig. Not sure what you need if you don't have a Nvidia videocard. Maybe it's Xorg -configure

I made a new topic, but I think my issue needs to be in here. I have the same problems in 9.10 and 9.11 alpha 2. In 9.11 Alpha 1 everything works fine.

First of all my setup:

My HTPC with MSI P7NGM-Digital mainboard (GeForce 9300) is connected to my Onkyo TX-SR 605 with a HDMI cable. The Onkyo TX-SR 605 is connected to my Panasonic TH-42PX80 with a HDMI cable. Although the Panasonic is an HD-Ready television, it accepts 1080p24Hz.

When I'm using XBMC 9.10 and XBMC 9.11 Alpha 2 (not with Alpha 1), XBMC sets the resolution to 1080i24. I can select 1080p @ 24Hz. When I do this the resolution is successfully set to 1080p @ 24Hz. But the setting is acually set to 320x175 @ 85.00HZ. So when I reboot, XBMC returns with 320x175 @ 85.00HZ as resolution. Basically I can only use the default (1080i24) resolution. Any other resolution won't be remembered. When I install Alpha 1 the default setting is set to 1080p24. In Alpha 1 I can also select different resolutions.

Strangely enough, my TV says he gets 1080p from XBMC, eventhough the resolution in XBMC is set to 1080i24.

This is the xorg.conf I'm using:

Read the thread. I gave potential solutions already, as did others.

If you don't like those solutions, either build your own from SVN (it's already fixed) or wait for Beta 1 - this weekend.

Cheers,
Jonathan

I did read the thread. But:

jmarshall Wrote:Leave it set to the desktop resolution and things are fine.

It will ONLY have a problem if you change it to something other than the desktop resolution.

Why not just change the desktop resolution and be done with it?

I have set up a minimal XBMC version using this tutorial. So I'm not sure I can change the Desktop resolution.

I don't know how to install such a fix.
