I can't seem to locate one but I thought I'd ask.

Is there a plugin that will 'suggest a movie' either based on some criteria or randomly?

Smartplaylists, or partymode should do what you're looking for.

Ah, never thought to setup a smart playlist for a movie.

If you're looking for suggestions that may not be in your library, http://www.tastekid.com has approved us to use their API. I asked about if forever ago, but haven't had time or motivation to actually create something with it.

Plus I'm not really sure how I'd do the UI side of things.

Anyways, if anyone is interested in making a plugin or script of this site let me know I'll get you the details of the conversation with that site's owner.

Party mode nor smartplaylists will work with movies because it's only designed to shuffle entries defined as 'Music Videos'.

Marking Movies as music videos isn't an option, because then the movies show up under 'music' as well.

I wonder if there is an XML setting that can change this behavior?

Ideally, it would be better to have also an option to filter results again those items in your library. Then when you click on a suggestion it could auto link to the media.

I suppose it could either hook into the menu system when over an item 'Find similar' or as a sidebar 'suggest'.

Still sounds like a pipe dream at this point.
