XP vs Win7 on a Revo 3600
#1
I've been playing with my new Revo 3600 and comparing XP Pro and Windows 7. One slight surprise is that the CPU when playing a film seems to be slightly higher in Windows 7 than in XP. I've been using a 720p rip of XMen Origins as a test with the screen res set to 1280x768 to match the rip. With XP Pro playing this film uses about 67% CPU, but with Windows 7 It uses nearly 80%.

This is a freshly installed and updated OS with Camelot beta 1 installed. I'm a bit surprised there's a difference since I'd guess that the CPU would be dominated by the decompression and this wouldn't depend on the OS as it's just math. Maybe the display drivers (Ion drivers from nVidia in both cases) are slightly slower in Win7. I'd be interested if anyone else sees a similar difference.

I did try a 1080p rip of the film, but that runs at 100% CPU and drops frames. It's not too bad though. It would probably play fine on an Atom 330 instead of the 230 in my revo. Not bad for such a tiny CPU!

you should try the DSPlayer build a few threads down.

go with xp as that is what tiben20 (the developer) is using.
