I have enabled debug mode in XBMC. There is nothing to see in the log file.
It seems as if this is a Linux problem cybertony noted this already.

I think we should inform some developers because its a major problem. A mediacenter which cannot play a complete music album without problems is senseless.

Maybe we should create a trac ticket, if one has not been created already? I have never done this before myself, but I understand this is the way to get a good trac:-) on issues and when they will be resolved.

Hi cybertony
Could you please give a short description how to upgrade from xbmc live 9.04 to 9.11 ?
Thanks in advance
Jarny

I have create a ticket yesterday. But I was to late (and I do not use the search function correctly, shame on me!! And sorry for that )
The devs knows already about the problem. Here is the correct ticket from alikins: http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/8190

Upgrading is not completely straightforward, but here is a short description:

1. Remove any old xbmc packages. You can see which ones are installed using "dpkg -l |grep xbmc". Remove them with "sudo apt-get remove <package names here, separated by spaces, without the brackets>"

2. Make sure you have the right ppa. You need this one: https://launchpad.net/~team-xbmc/+archive/ppa (look on this page for instructions on how to add it if you do not have it yet) You can probably skip this step if you have a fresh 9.04 install.

3. Install Camelot with "sudo apt-get install xbmc-live"

I'm currently on holiday, so I'm typing this from memory, and didn't test the procedure. I can't give you more detailed instructions at this time.

Thanks cybertony
I have not so much time before so I try your instructions but now. It works great. Thanks again.

Here are the commands:
Code:
sudo apt-get remove xbmc xbmc-common xbmc-live xbmc-skin-pm3-hd xbmc-standalone xbmc-web-pm3
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

add the following lines:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
save the file

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc-live
thats all.

I would like to try this procedure in order to remove the audio becoming garbled issue. I guess I need to downgrade to xbmc live 9.04 before upgrading using these commands ? If so can somebody help with information on how to downgrade from xbmc live 9.11 to 9.04? In advance thanks!

Simply install the XBMC 9.04 live version: http://sourceforge.net/projects/xbmc/fil...p/download (based on ubuntu 9.04 without the sound issue, thats the point)
and then do the upgrade to 9.11.

I have just noticed this problem tonight Sad Asrock ION 330HT, Camelot Live 9.11, music from NAS, output is optical. I upgraded 9.11 B2 to Camelot as the download had issues at the time. I am sure it worked fine in B1 though.

Screen saver changes made no difference for me. However I have just changed my output device to iec958 from default. Upto now it stated the noise about 3 songs in,in fact everytime this was the point. Now on song 5, fingers crossed Laugh Reading through the thread though it seems like it will happen at some point.

So the fix is to install 9.04 and upgrade to 9.11? Is this working for people??

Yes, that works definitely. I hear music for many hours without garbled sound.

Excellent Big Grin Interesting though last night after changing my output audio setting to use iec958 I didn't get the problem again. 20 tracks of a album with the screensaver and no issues at all Huh Will try this agian before rebuilding once more

Very interesting. Please post your results.
I guess I have made also the test with the iec958 output device with negativ results (garbled sound), but I am not sure.

Happy to hear that the workaround works! In addition to upgrading xbmc-live to 9.11 from 9.04, you should probably also update your Nvidia drivers to the latest version (if you use Nvidia hardware). They can be found at this ppa:

https://launchpad.net/~nvidia-vdpau/+archive/ppa

Add this ppa to your sources list if it is not there already, and update your drivers to version 190.53. Steps to do this are:

1. remove old Nvidia drivers
2. add ppa (see instructions at the above url, xbmc-live 9.04 uses the jaunty distribution)
3. apt-get update
4. apt-get install nvidia-190-kernel-source nvidia-190-modaliases nvidia-glx-190 nvidia-glx-190-dev libvdpau1

I tried switching to iec958 but doing this I don't hear any sound. I am using analog out, do I need to get HDMI or SPDIF working in order to use iec938 ? I have not tried this yet since I hear a lot of people are having trouble with this...
