Hellow there!

I've installed ubuntu 9.10 with XBMC...

I use a IR usb connected receiver...

I've a samsung display P2470HD with a remote control...

I've tried to install my microsoft MCE remote keyboard with lirc. It worked....not everything...but i worked...

But...what i realy want is to use my remote from the samsung display to handle the XBMC...

Is this possible? It would me more than great!

I assume it's a multifunction programmable remote ? Have a look at the manual & see if there's a listing for Microsoft for the DVR button (assuming it has one). If not you'll have to muck around with your LIRC configuration files and the Lircmap.xml file for XBMC.

If you can't get a 'microsoft' IR protocol working, see if you can't find one that would match one of the LIRC remote files found at sourceforge.
http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/

Then just include the specific LIRC remote file in your /etc/lirc/lircd.conf & hand edit the /usr/share/xbmc/system/Lircmap.xml to match your new remote.

Once you have lirc set up w/the new file (restart LIRC or reboot the PC), from a command line run 'irw' and press buttons, you should see the name of the button pressed as you press it, if not the file doesn't match your remote.

& stuff,

I'm not sure if it is an multifunctional remote....the model name = BN59-00865A from samsung

I follow your instruction, but my model is not shown on the list: http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/. Zo i used de config from: BN59-00861A.

But it doesn't work. I've a microsoft USB receiver....where can i find the receiver settings?

What I assume your looking to do, is use that same remote to control the display and XBMC. (I don't think this will work out for you as well as you'd hope). Sad

If this is the right remote:
http://www.chsinteractive.co.uk/electric...inal_2.htm

It doesn't look like it's multifunction (I see no TV or DVD or AUX buttons to switch mode). If that's the case even if you get it working with LIRC & XBMC you'd still be sending signals that the TV would pick up as well... causing all sorts of problems. Rolleyes

If you don't want to use this remote with XBMC in the same room as the display, I'd assume one of the samsung remote files would work (trial & error time). They generally have a very similar protocol for devices manufactured around the same time period. http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/samsung/
-OR- you can use irrecord to create your own remote file, but these self recorded files aren't always the best in my experience.

make sure it's not an RF remote. i have a new samsung led/lcd tv and it came with remote BN59-00849A and the remote is RF, not IR.

Okej...maybe it isn't a good idee...for the samsung remote.

I've tried serveral 'how to's' to get my MCE keyboard (2005) to work in Ubuntu 9.10, there is something like 'lirc mod mce', but is it working for 9.10?

I'm looking for a good how to...

I wish the remotes weren't so difficult to setup.

I've got mine receiving in IRW, but can't get the keys to actually map. :-(
