[AppleTV] Problem with Digital Out?
#31
Is there any update on this issue?

I am having the same no sound problem on my Denon AVR-1602 Receiver with AC3 and AAC encoded video files!

Is someone in the XBMC Dev team looking into this as it seems like it is quiet a big issue...

I logged a bug in the trac and we are waiting for the audio expert to come back and have a look at it

This problem is just effecting ATV. I'm using a Mac G5 and 5.1 outputs no sound. The only way to get sound is to switch to Analog, which sucks.

Big issue this one!

No sound from 5.1 Audio on Optical Digital on an AppleTV using XBMC making all those HDRips pretty useless!

What is the bug number for this and does anyone know if it is actively being looked at and do any of the nightlies have this fixed by any chance?

All comments are missing a significant piece of information: AppleTV OS version.
Based on the logs posted so far, it would appear that a change to the ATV audio device hierarchy has been introduced. I have not yet had time to look more closely into the latest ATV update, but it seems to me that this is likely a contributing factor. The fact that reverting to 9.04 confirms this, as the entire ATV audio subsystem was rewritten between the two releases.

There are plenty of threads on this with this being the first feedback we got from a dev on the issuses (outside of trac). There are really 2 issues here

.m4v/.mp4 AC3 passthru shows up as 2.0 audio (.mkv reports correctly)
http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/8226

No AC3 Passthru or 6ch AAC
http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/8465

I've written to the trac 8465 as well (ATV OS 3.0.1)

There is only one dev (me, afaik) who is intimately familiar with the relatively complex OSX audio API as it pertains to passthrough. Given that I have just relocated 900 miles, sold a house, bought another, and started a new job, I am terribly sorry I could not get to this sooner....

Keep in mind that OSS is about contributing, not collecting. The best thing that someone who is sincerely interested in seeing a bug resolved can do is to get involved in fixing it. There are significantly more open issues in any open source project, than there are people willing and able to solve them. That is the nature of the beast.

As soon as I am able to get a test environment set-up, I will have a look at the state of this problem. Seeing as how my equipment is in storage until I close on my house in a few weeks, I can't make any promises.

Totally understand your position. I believe a few of us who have brought up this issue wanted to provide as much info/test that was needed. I don't code (anymore) but am always willing to run test and take direction from those that do.

Having said that, I have already converted back one of my ATVs to factory; but am always willing to hack it if it will help you get to the bottom of this...or any other issues you want me to look at.

http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/8465 is now closed. Please see the ticket comments for details.

There does not appear to be a general ticket for 'No AC3/DTS passthrough on ATV in 9.11'. Am I not looking in the right place?

I think we were piggy backing off of that one...I'll create a new one just for AC3 Passthrough.

yeah, to the best of my knowledge the AC3 Passthrough problem has not been resolved and I do not believe a ticket has been submitted yet. If D-tyme would like to submit that and post a link, thanks.

I don't have issues with AC3 going back to the AAC issue even with downmixing the files play badly and can't hear a thing while in 9.04 maybe through the dolby pro logic of my receiver I still was able to hear the movie OK

Most AC3 files are now working for me!

But AAC files still do not work.

Does your Amp need to have AAC decoding capabilities or should XBMC send a signal out through the Digital Output that a normal DD and DTS Amp should be able to play?
