HP MCE Remote review

Thanks for the review (http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Remote_Control_Reviews).

Do you know if this is fully MS compatible i.e. can you use the .reg files to remap the button presses? I would guess so since it uses the eHome driver, but not all remotes that use the eHome driver allow you to reconfigure the button presses.

Also most of the postings of this remote on eBay don't include the IR receiver. Is the remote normally supplied with a receiver? If not is the receiver available separately?

Thanks, I had a bit of spare time at work today!

I think that this remote would originally only be available as part of a HP Media Centre PC. I can confirm that the remote sends the same RC-6 commands as the Microsoft one. I have a remote but I don't actually own the reciever, however i have read reviews that have said the reciever has the same internal hardware as the microsoft one and uses the same ehome drivers.

So the HP remote is compatible with the .reg file. On a side not, the Phillips remotes also work with the reg file, but i use the microsoft reciever and havn't tried the phillips reciever yet.

I think we could make some kind of remote / reciever Matrix/Spreadsheet to show features and compatibility with the reg file you made.

I've been wondering about adding a list of compatible remotes to http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Using_a_Micr...in_Windows

I think a seperate list for recievers might be important as the rc-6 remotes all work with the reg file as long as you have the microsoft reciever. ie. i have the hp remote as a spare and it works with the microsoft reciever.

Availability of remotes in different countires might be a good idea too. Im in the UK and theres no point looking for one on the high street!

I will test my phillips reciever tonight to see if it works with your reg file. There must be a few of these phillips remotes knocking about as Curry, Scan, microdirect used to sell for a couple of years after Vista was released. The philips remotes are also branded Origen and come their new HTPC cases, so must still be in production.

This company makes very expensive but nice cases!!
