[LINUX] Creating partition in linux for data?
#1
Hi guys,

Quick overview of my situation, I have an asrock ION

Ive got xbmc live + win7 Dual booting

10GB for Xbmc live system
10GB for Swap drive
Rest is on windows partition.

Now what I want to do is reduce the windows partition by 100GB and use that so xbmc can recognise it and I can store bits a pieces on there.

Whats the best way to go about it and what do I need it formatted to?

I reckon the easiest way might be using the xbmc live CD as that had options for formating etc but I wasnt sure what to format it as? (ext2 or 3?)

Use partition magic under windows to reduce the partition size under windows.

Alternatively grab the gparted livecd and boot from that, and you can reduce your windows partition size using it - http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

Also 10gb for swap space is overkill

Hi mate,

Thanks for your reply

1. What size would you recommend for the swap space?

2. I know how to reduce the windows partition but i have no idea what to format it to so that xbmc can see it (can xbmc live see ntfs drives?) - also whatever the linux partition system is can windows see it as a drive?
Ideally I would like both systems being able to see the drive.

Thanks for your help again Smile
