Hi All

Excuse my first post Im a noob... Hi To everyone great forum btw.

I have been trying to sort my SMB share probs for three days solid and finally resolved it tonight, so I thought I would post here to give anyone with the same probs with XP home not allowing access with the Lock preferences Username and Password request when no passwords are set...

I had no password or user set ups and then suddenly couldnt access..

What I found was that the network shares in XP were not allowing "everyone" full access.

This is what I did (good luck)...

Boot up in safe mode and go in as administrator (this only works in safe mode you cant alter it in normal mode in home edition)
click on start and then right mouse click on MY COMPUTER
click on Manage
double click Shared folders (on left)
then click shares (on left also, under Shared Folders)

On the right your shares will be displayed
double click one at a time and look in the tabs along the top,
look for Sharing and then Security,
in Sharing click on "permissions" and look to see if "everyone" has a tick in all the boxes (Full control was not ticked in mine), if not tick them and click ok, (I left Special unticked actually), .

Do this for both Sharing and in the Security tab (you might find that just the sharing one does it but I did both), you will need to do this for each of your shares....

Worked for me...Big Grin

You can also remove old shares by clicking stop sharing...

Good luck it was doin my head in...............Confused

Im off to bed now...

If anyone wants to add any probs about changng these settings feel free..
