Slow interface w/ S-Video interface

Hello everyone.

I've been using XBMC on an old xbox for about 4 years and started a replacement project because that old girl is not going to last forever. So I installed ElementOS on a few years old PC that I have laying around. It's an Ubuntu redistribution with XFCE desktop manager and XBMC packaged in the install.

In my initial tests everything worked great (this was hooked up to a monitor with VGA cable) When I moved it into the living room, it's hooked up with a VGA to S-Video converter. This forces the screen resolution to 800x600, 61Hz - now the XBMC interface is so slow, and video playback is totally slow - basically 1 frame of video every 15 seconds. I can playback the videos fine w/ VLC. I made a slight improvement by removing the Confluence skin and by setting the vsync to 0 in the guisettings.xml file. But it's still not usable.

So any ideas?
