Non Smooth Menu Navigating on Ubuntu Desktop (Maverick)

Hi. I'm using Dharma Beta 3 on full ubuntu 10.10 i386 installation on my HTPC. When I starting XBMC over Gnome desktop menu navigation isnt smooth. Very jerky. But if i drop console and stop gdm everything is normal. Is it a way for fix performance problem on full desktop environment.

Disable desktop effects.
