DHarma beta4 no sound with Aspire revo3610
#1
I like new add-on system on Dharma beta, and add-on cant work on xbmc live9.10,so I try to install Dharma beta4 in my Aspire R3610.

I use a sd-card to create a live-cd,and it works good by booting from sd-card to
use xbmc, I got the sound by hdmi.

but after I install xbmc into my Aspire R3610.The sound gone.
and I tried to update nvida driver, changed .asoundrc file.
still cant get any sound of all video type.

the setting under booting from sd-card is:
Audio out put: Custom plug:both
DirectPassThrougth: hdmi

I tried to set the same after i installed,it didnt work.
I found under every account forld, there is a .asoundrc file.
but I cant change my account's one,it will be recoveried when I reboot my pc.

I have no idea why it could happened.it seems not the driver problem.
who can help me?

I have something like that, too: After upgrading to Beta4, my HDMI output silenced. Eek
I checked mixer settings, and drivers, but only have sound, if I set it to analog or SPDIF... Huh

I'm in the boat, too.

In Dharma Beta 3 sound worked perfectly, I even could activate HDMI and SPDIF simultaneously - under Beta 4 I have the well known "Check your audio settings" message. Undecided

This is a bug in install,I found a way to fix the problem.
I found some information about install xbmc into a removeable device will have
the bug,and I installed xbmc by a removeable SD-Card.

I thought maybe it is the same reason.and try steps below:
* Press on the keyboard Ctrl+Alt+F2 – to command prompt
* Type terminal and press enter(will show terminal is not a command, dont care it,just go on)
* Type alsamixer and press enter
* Use the arrow keys to select the muted HDMI channel
* Unmute the channel by pressing the M key(set all channel to "00"-unmute)
* Close alsamixer by pressing the Esc key
* Type sudo alsactl store and press enter to save the changes you just made

And in audio setting is:
Audio output device = HDMI
Passthrough output device = HDMI

it really works.don't think it is a driver problem.the nvidia 195.x Driver is enough to work on ubuntu 10.10

Good luck,Guys.

* Live now contains an Audio Mixer. You’ll find it in the Programs section. Non-Live users (Linux and OSX) may install it from the add-ons browser. This replaces the previous scripts that attempted to set volume levels. As a result, volumes may be low or muted by default, but now you can adjust them with your remote.

I noticed the XBMC audio mixer in Beta 3 already Wink

@yougikou: Thanks, but that does not solve the problem I have (nothing was muted).
When I load a music playlist i. e., the first track plays fine. Skipping stops playing a sound and brings up the "Failed to initialize audio device" error message.
The next song plays well again, but then it fails again...every second track plays, the others don't...:confused2:

I have had this issue with version before Beta 3 and was so happy it worked in B3 all of a sudden.
I'll wait for the final release of Dharma. In case the issue remains I will go deeper into it, but at the moment I prefer to ignore it Wink

I found out: In alsamixer one of the SPDIF settings was muted, and did not responded to unmute.
I had to set XBMC to analogue, to be able to unmute it... Nerd
