How to manually clean library?
#1
I have XBMC Live 9.11 installed onto the hard drive and I am unable to create movie library. I have tried to remove and re-add source and still the library comes up empty. Is there a way to manually clean the library so I start fresh? I have added other sources like TV shows and that was scraped just fine. I am thinking that it may be something wrong with movie library folder or permissions as I have connection to the internet and the movie files are named correctly (the same library of movies works fine on another computer).

Thanks.

System>Video then select Clean Library near the bottom. You can also delete your video database but then you would loose your TV series unless you export and re-import them. Can you see your movie files if you select
Videos rather than Movies from the menu? Did you set your media type to Movies on your source folder?

I have tried already the "Clean Library" option in System. Doesn't work. I have no problem deleting everything manually and re-add movies and tv shows as long as it works. Where is video library database located?

I did not try selecting Videos. I think I have that disabled in the configuration so XBMC only shows Movies on the main menu. Yes, I have selected Movies as when defining the source.

Please unmask Videos give it a shot. Going through videos is almost like using a file manager...speaking of which. From the main menu highlight System then right arrow and select file manager. See if you can get to your movie folder from there. I don't run Live but mine are off my home folder /.xbmc/userdata/database/MyVideos34.db. If you're running 9.11 it's quite possible they're in a different location and a different name and is most likely a hidden folder.

I can browse all movies with File Manager. Unfortunately even after scanning and creating library, both Videos and Movies do not show anything.

I am now upgrading to Dharma beta 4 to see if that fixes my problem. My movies are on a different partition so I will just have to mount the partition after installation and re-run the library scanning process.

I guess with 9.11 something just got corrupted because I was able to create library in the past without any problems.

OK. There is something really wrong with my setup. I have installed fresh Dharma 4 beta and tried to scan movies to library. It didn't work. Music works just fine. Unfortunately, the TV shows do not work now neither.

I have movies and TV shows on a separate partition. The folder structure is as follows:

Movies
-Avatar
--Avatar.avi
-Casino Royale
--Casino Royale.avi
...

TV shows are similar except that there is another folder for the season.

Now in XBMC I am selecting Movies folder on the other partition and that's what gets added as a source. Then I set the content and ask XBMC to run an automated scan. Am I missing something obvious here?

Your movies are in their own folders in the source folder so select "Use folder names for lookups"

That's what I have selected. Still it doesn't work. Is there a something that would prevent XBMC to access the folders permission-wise? I did reinstall the XBMC and now I have created a different user name.

Weird thing I just noticed that I have two DVD rips that have the following structure:

Movies
-Disney Goofy DVD 1
--Video_TS
--Audio_TS
-Disney Goofy DVD 2
--Video_TS
--Audio_TS

They are next to the:
-Avatar
--Avatar.avi

Those Disney movies are the only ones that get added to the library. All the AVI files do not work but I can still see and play those files when I turn the library off.

You've gone through all the check but clarify one point. You can get to the movies using the XBMC file manager and you're not referring to the Linux file manager. You should not need to mess with the username and password in XBMC. I think when you disable the library it's the same as going in through the Videos tab so if that works then It's most likely not a User rights issue. If it's seeing the DVD rips and not the .AVI files it sounds like an issue with the scraper. Try getting to your "Movies" folder from the Video tab on the menu then bring up the context menu and select scan for new content. Also make sure that on the folder setup you have Scan Recursively selected which is right under the Use Folder Names for Lookup selector. I'm not sure the Run Automated Scans need to be selected but it wouldn't hurt. If that doesn't work then create a new folder
and video source but don't put the AVI files in folders...just all the AVI files in that folder and don't select "Use Folder Names" in the setup. I ran into a few quirks when I had both DVD structures and MKV/AVI files in the same path.

Success. Selecting "Run recursive scan" did the trick. In 9.11 I was able to select both "Use folders as movie names" and "Recursive scan". Now, Dharma automatically grays out the Recursive scan option if Use folders option is selected. Still do not know what's wrong with my library that the automated scan doesn't work but at least now I have a working library.
