[CLOSED] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC
(2016-01-04, 08:03)dcquence Wrote: So, is my best bet to just downgrade to an old version of xbmc for compatibility at this point?

The most recent Advanced Launcher version does work near flawlessly with the latest Kodi build. The only known bug is random deletion of the database, which Angelscry attributed to a bug in Kodi/XBMC itself and not the plugin. Because of this, he added a setting to periodically backup the database. If it gets deleted, you can just load it from the backup.
Since my last re-install to Jarvis my ROMs scrape without issue but my PC games just say no fanart found and no thumbnail found. I have tried a few things like checking permissions, re-installing the plugin and running kodi as admin but nothing deeper yet.

It appears I am not alone on this issue. https://www.reddit.com/r/xbmc/comments/3...humbnails/

Here is the log of everything from openng Kodi to scanning a game:

Which scraper, which skin... All these are important. I've had issues scraping content with Black Glass Nova, and the GameFAQs scraper doesn't work properly because GameFAQs blocks your IP if you mass scrape them.
I still use google for box art and fanart...still work, thegameDB still works for me too...maybe try these.
Google can be great but you need to handpick. Not practical with a collection of 1000+ games. Tongue

I am using Mimic skin with google mainly but I have tried all the scrapers. It works fine for say SNES, Genesis and NEO GEO but never for Standalone Launchers aka PC games.

I tried switching to default skins when this first happened as well as running Kodi as admin, even doing a full re-install and deleting C:\users\dcquence\appdata\roaming\kodi

Try using your PC games not as a standalone launcher but the same as an emulator. So have .lnk files to your PC exes and use Explorer.exe as your launcher application. Try performing scrapes under this setup and report the results. Smile
Is it possible to path substitute the launcher.xml?

I had to give you +rep because I never realized you had to use Explorer as the launcher. Thanks. Big Grin

Ha! Thanks, mate. Glad I could be of service. Smile

Yeah, I would have never thought of going that route. I will be doing that tongiht and trying my luck.

When dealing with DOSBox it's the only way (except this time the executable is DOSBox.exe of course). You need a shortcut for DOSBox games because what tells DOSBox to run a specific game is the configuration file's Autoexec.bat section (which emulates a DOS PC's Autoexec.bat file) rather than the command line. You call a conf file (or two, even, like the appendconfig command in RetroArch) via command line and, in the Autoexec.bat portion of the conf used to run the game, you add every command needed to run the game itself (mount CD image, call executable with command line arguments, and so on). What happens is that DOSBox runs, loads the emulated Autoexec.bat and finally the game runs. Seems complicated at first but becomes very easy once you know what to do. Smile

DOSBox is a lovely thing because you can have a myriad of config files to emulate various eras of DOS gaming and further config files for each game.
Probably a stupid question but when trying to create a "Files Launcher" i.e. games, I can't see any executables. Is there a setting I'm missing?
EDIT - can see in Confluence, but not in Aeon Nox Silvo. Any thoughts?

Hope it works out for you, bud. Smile The Explorer / lnk setup is often better as you can have your PC games as a launcher amongst the launchers for other systems rather than the games themselves and launchers for other systems being mixed together.

I use .conf files as roms in Advanced Launcher for much the same purpose. Makes having DosBox Windows 9X (and using games like Blade Runner, StarCraft, or [insert old-school Win32 based game here]) setups sit alongside simpler Dos games way easier. I run StarCraft 1 and Brood War this way so I can play it LAN through DosBox and scaled to fullscreen 1080p. I don't care that it distorts the aspect slightly, I just appreciate the clean nearest neighbour scaling to fill the panel. As far I'm aware no patch / hack mod exists to do this for the game on native Windows (that MOD that does HD resolutions but zooms out to a ridiculous extent doesn't count). Yet workarounds to achieve these kind of things exist for almost every other legacy Blizzard game.

If you're able to see it in other skins but not Aeon Nox Silvo, then quite seemingly, the problem probably lies in how Aeon Nox Silvo and Advanced Launcher interact or how Aeon Nox Silvo displays information passed to it from Advanced Launcher. Redownload the skin to be sure it isn't something attributed to your original install and if that doesn't work, then presumably, you won't have any luck with AL and ANS in their current states.
