Hi,
I'm using xbmc dharma rc1 under Ubuntu 10.04. The pc is a Asus EeeBox eb1501 (nVidia ion platform). The shutdown and exit xbmc buttons are not working anymore. In particular, the shutdown button suspends the pc, while the exit xbmc button restarts xbmc. Note that if I get into terminal, the shutdown -h now works perfectly.

i would have liked to help but,

i had this problem too with Windows XP and XBMC Dharma beta 4...

Exit button would Freeze my PC completely...

but Since upgrading to DHARMA RC1,

its working perfectly now....

I see. But do the buttons on the "Switch Off" dialog execute any script? And in the case, where are they? Just to check which commands are executed.
