[RELEASE] XBMC Flicks - Netflix Movies / TV Shows (Video) experimental Addon for XBMC
(2012-04-17, 04:33)D1RTYL0G1C Wrote: To anyone who has posted regarding XBMC 11 not having XBMC Flicks in the repository, I was looking for the same answer and since no one has bothered answering that for you, I will do so myself. The reason you can't find XMBC Flicks in the XBMC 11 repository is because it doesn't exist in the XBMC repository. My best guess is that it needs to be updated for XBMC 11 since I did try to manually install bengalih's modification and it told me the file structure was bad so either bengalih made a mistake, or as I suspect, XBMC 11 is not backward compatible with XBMC 10 addons ( or at least not with all of them ). Your only 2 options as far as I can tell are to uninstall XBMC 11 and find a copy of XBMC 10 or wait.

Well, you are correct that XBMCFlicks is not yet in the EDEN repository. But you should probably do a bit more research before you go shouting "fire" all over the place.

I'm curious as to how could you have even attempted the install of my modification if you didn't even have XBMCFlicks installed yet? As my modification states that you need to replace two files from the original plugin - how would you have gone about this if you didn't yet install the original plugin?

My post:
"Please note that these modifications are to the latest available plugin code. That plugin is referenced here and I believe what everyone on Eden should now be using. You can probably easily adapt my code to other versions if necessary."

If you had bothered to click on the "here" you would have seen the last post from Fekker (the current Dev of XBMCFlicks) where he states that he has not yet fully committed the EDEN branch, but he provides the latest copy of the XBMCFlix which does work with EDEN.

Yes, it is a manual install (to which Fekker gives directions in that post).

To say "no one has bothered answering that for you" is untrue as this question has been posed and answered at least several times in the last 5-10 pages of this thread, as well as other threads posted by people who can't seem to be bothered to read back a few postings to get the latest news...

Your recommendations are way off base, and I would suggest that no one follow them. There is no need to stay on XBMC 10 if you want to use XBMCFlicks, you simply need to manually install the Add-on as per Fekker's instructions.

If then you would like to use my modifications (not required at all, simply preference) then copy the two files in my mod over the original.

The reason much of this information is not apparent is that Fekker has been away for a while. Hopefully he will return to commit the final EDEN changes and register the add-on in the repository and update the main thread. However, he probably has real-life things to attend to that have been more pressing.
.peace out.

(2012-04-16, 20:36)bengalih Wrote: I have also made some small fixes and modifications to the XBMCFlix to better suit my viewing habits. I have PMed these to Fekker a week back, but he seems to be MIA for a while, so I thought I would share these with the community as others may have some benefit from them.

Admittetly, my changes may not be the most graceful from a code perspective, but my goal was to modify as little of the original code as possible and simply either add one or two lines or make minor modifications to very small sections of code. I did not want to rewrite any entire routines.

The main "FIX" that my modification deals with is that I discovered that show episodes that have an apostrophe in the name (e.g. "How It's Made") get truncated to a "\" at the point of the apostrophe (e.g. "How It\"). In fixing that I discovered some issues where shows that are not in your Instant Queue may not properly display covers when looking in your rental history).

The other "MOD" that I made is that I am a big user of Rental History. I like how the Netflix site allows you to go to your Recently Watched and see them listed in chronological order. So, what I did was simply move the "Watched" menu from underneath "Rental History" to be inside the main "Instant" menu and call it "Recently Watched". I also launch the "Instant" menu at startup so that everything you need is on the initial menu. This does have the side effect of removing the "Disc by Mail" menu...so if you use XBMCFlix to view your Disc Queue, you may not want this option. Personally, I use the Webpage to manage my queue, so I don't miss this feature at all.

My modification also retrieves only the last 100 (instead of 500) shows in the Rental History. This is mostly for speed as it becomes almost instantaneous instead of having to wait ~3 seconds. Finally, my default search listing of the Recently Watched items is chronological just like on Netflix. This allows you to scroll through your most recently watched items first.

You can see a comparison of the original with my mod here

I needed to modify two files for these changes. These files will be in the /lib subdirectory of the add on:
(e.g. C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\spudsdude-XBMC-Flicks-1d81b3a\resources\lib)

The two files are iqueue.py and menu.py. You can simply backup and replace the original files with my modifications and then restart the plugin.

The download below has just the two files necessary. You can do a text search within the files for "bengalih" and you will find the lines of code that I changed.

Please note that these modifications are to the latest available plugin code. That plugin is referenced here and I believe what everyone on Eden should now be using. You can probably easily adapt my code to other versions if necessary.

I take no credit for XBMCFlix code - just for these few, minor tweaks. Hopefully when Fekker gets back he can incorporate at least the Title fix, and perhaps add some code to incorporate these other mods as options.

Download REMOVED (see below)

UPDATE:

(4/16/2012)
The fix for the apostrophe's mentioned above may have only affected titles in the rental history and not the Instant queue. Playing around with it more I noticed that my modification may have altered the view of the title in the Instant queue depending on how your view was set. I have made another modification that should resolve those. There still appear to be some issues with parsing out properly various bits of data (in the original script). These are more apparent when looking at synopsis views...things like the Director, Writer, Run-time of a movie don't always seem to be properly displayed. I have a feeling that not a lot of QA was done with the Rental History section (probably because it wasn't considered as important as Instant Queue). I'm fairly confident that this latest mod only enhances the original and, although it does not fix all the display issues, I don't believe it causes any additional problems.

Does this work with all skins? I really want to try this but I use Aeon Mq3

So, I can't manager xbmcflicks to work. XBMC is getting frustrating each time I try to do something different than reproducing video files. getting remote to work = hours of reading and trying stuff; getting weather to work=hours of reading and trying stuff and not getting success, now trying to use netflix=hours of reading and trying stuff and getting VERY tired. I'm a software developer, maybe a bad one, but I know how to use a PC (i mean, i have no problem finding the appdata folder or editing an xml), and yet, it take hours to do every configuration. Really; if you need to be a geek to use xbmc as more than a "cool vlc", many people will be frustrated. I'm not the first one here.

I have windows 7 32 bits, xbmc version unknown (it should be shown somehere, don't it?), i've installed the addon from the xbmc addon's menu, i don't live in canada, i have firefox installed, i'm logged into my netflix account using it (and chrome, and ie, the three of them at the same time logged in, just in case), i don't have OSX, I don't have an userdata.txt file in my entire PC and my bloodtype is AB+.

As I enter videos - video-addons- xbmcflicks - instant movies and shows, I see a list of stuff (instant queue, recommended, top 25, new arrivals, etc). As I double click an item it appears to do something (loading box with a moving circle) for a second and then I get an error: error, script failed, plugin.video.xbmcflicks

These are my configuration files:

I'll appreciate any help.

I own an Apple TV first gen with the Firecore ATV hack, which got XBMC on my Apple TV. Any know of a way to get XBMCflix on that machine up and running? The XBMC version is Eden

I cannot figure out how to authorize my Netflix account with this add-on.

(2010-12-14, 01:44)fekker Wrote: FAQ

1. Get nexflix working on your machine natively - this will ensure that you already have siverlight and anything else netflix might want to get working.

2. Turn on Plugin Debugging
Go to Videos / Add-Ons
Right Click XBMC Flicks
Select Add-On Settings
Under Debugging, turn on Both options
Back out to the Add-Ons menu

3. Start XBMC Flicks

At this point your bowser should kick off asking you the account to authorise for netflix usage - do so. If that doenst kick off, you can pull the url from the xbmc.log file in a line that looks like "Authorize user access here: https://api-user.netflix.com/..."
....

The red part of this FAQ is where my attempt fails. I have turned debug logging and verbose logging on for this add-on in addon settings, but XBMC.log never contains any URL to authorize Netflix manually. I have never seen the browser popup for authrization, which is why I am trying to do it manually. My log says:

Code:
03:34:19 T:2957369344  NOTICE: USER INFO FILE LOC: /Users/xxxx/Library/Application Support/XBMC/userdata/addon_data/plugin.video.xbmcflicks/userinfo.txt
03:34:19 T:2957369344  NOTICE: couldn't load user information from userinfo.txt file
03:34:19 T:2957369344  NOTICE: .. getAuth called ..
03:34:19 T:2957369344  NOTICE: OSX Setting is set to: True
03:34:19 T:2957369344  NOTICE: .. user configured ..
03:34:20 T:2957369344  NOTICE: Token did not contain any errors
03:34:20 T:2957369344   ERROR: Error Type: <type 'exceptions.KeyError'>
03:34:20 T:2957369344   ERROR: Error Contents: ('oauth_token',)
Etc.

I am on OS X, btw (and on OSX, xbmc.log is found in %user%\Library\Logs). Edit: I'm using Eden, so I installed this manually.

ME too on my office PC! I can't get the authorize to pop up either! I keep getting script error! I have Win7 32bit and this script worked on my other PC but not this one!

Is it broken now?!

I see no reason that it shouldn't. If XBMCFLicks works with your skin then my modification should also. All it does is change some menu options and adjust some parsing of the data - it should be skin independent.

.peace out.

For those of you having problems with the plugin script failing when trying to load your Netflix queue...
As you can see I have been doing some development on this and I started having some of the same issues. It seemed to work no problem the first time I set it up, but I too began to have problems. I have not yet tracked down exactly (although the issue I think is in modQueue.py and possibly some differences in where libraries are for Eden vs Dharma).

Basically, the script will fail without your authorization token, but for some reason it doesn't always properly kick off the authorization process if the token file isn't found. There are a few things you can do.

First, locate the folder that your userinfo.txt is in. For windows this should be:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata\addon_data\plugin.video.xbmcflicks

That file should have in it something that looks like the following:

Code:
requestKey=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
requestSecret=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
accessKey=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
accessSecret=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Chances are if you are having a problem that file is not there or is empty.

What I have had good success with is deleting the whole folder listed above (plugin.vidio.xbmcflicks), then closing XBMC, relaunching and going back into the Plugin. I have tested this 10 times now, and it seems to work each time.

If you are still unsuccessful, then my only other recommendation is to install XBMC version 10. (You can still get it here).

Install fresh XBMC and 10 and then download and configure the XBMCFlicks plugin and authorize everything that way. Then, get a copy of your userinfo.txt file from above and uninstall. Re-install 11 and set everything up and then copy your userinfo.txt file back to the appropriate location.

Other things you can try...I have had some success with:
Close down XBMC
Delete the following directories:
- C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\spudsdude-XBMC-Flicks-1d81b3a
- C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata\addon_data\plugin.video.xbmcflicks
Go to "www.netflix.com/clearcookies" from your browser. Do this from all your browsers if you have logged into Netflix with more than on.
Restart your PC
Re-extract the spudsdude-XBMC-Flicks-1d81b3a.zip into the \AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\ folder
Restart XBMC and relaunch the Plugin
.peace out.

This worked for me. Thank you. After deleting said directory, I did have to re-enable debugging in addon settings to have the secret and key viewable within xbmc.log, but it worked from there. It may help other OSX users to know that iqueue.py is actually in the addon within XBMC.app's contents itself, which took me a minute to realize.

I have another problem though. The addon only shows results in "Top 25” , "All New Arrivals" , and "Browse by Genre". Instant queue lists, searches, and recommendations are all blank now. I may try deleting plugin settings again and just get a new key and secret from Netflix again; I will post if I have success.

Thanks again, bengalih.

I'll try this when I get home, thanks for the hard work on this.

Hi all,

been searching through the forums but can't get a definitive answer, can you use XBMCflicks with a UK Netflix account yet? or is this still being worked on?

Sorry if this has been asked already i just wanted an update.

Keep up the good work as always Wink

Hi, I am happy to see that there is lot's of activity on this plugin.

But here is a (maybe really stupid) question: How come that there isn't some sort of "native" plugin, rather than using the IE interface?

The reason I ask is because every time I try, I have weird IE-related issues (yes, navigation is one of them, but for instance, after I play something, there is no way to get back to XBMC, or the whole thing crashes, etc.).

How come XBMC went this rout, instead of doing something like MCE, Boxee, or even Plex (although the Plex plugin doesn't work with SilverLight 5)?

It has been mentioned many times even on last page...
