One issue you might be seeing is that when you have XBMC running (not video playing), then if the mini sleeps, it disconnects from the display. Now if your display sleeps or gets powered off and then the mini awakes, then it must re-negotiate display settings. XBMC does not like this and might hang.

There are fixes planned to refactor xbmc's display handling to allow for these circumstances.

I suggest that until this refactor happens, don't sleep the mac mini but allow display sleep.

Thanks Davilla, I'll give that a try. Will let you know what happens. If it was just XBMC hanging it wouldn't bug me as much, but the fact that it locks up the entire computer (I can't even SSH or access network shares after this happens) is what seems to be the biggest issue here.

I'm going to try changing the sleep settings to never allow the mini to sleep, just display sleep, and will post my findings here after a day or so of use.
