[RELEASE] Wireless Manager (Wicd based) Addon for Linux
#61
A brief log of my experiences so far:

Downloaded repository zip file, installed to xbmc, but couldn't load wireless addon; log file said:
Code:
ERROR: GetDirectory - Error getting http://github.com/vikjon0/qf-xbmc-addons/raw/master/script.linux.wireless/
Loading this URL in the browser returns a 404. I had a non-xbmc user installed at first, but it still wouldn't install after changing the user name to xbmc.

Obtained offline install zip with wget and it installed fine, however I don't see any results in the wireless list. wicd-curses runs fine for me from the command line, and I am a member of the netdev group. I see at least 3 networks every time including my own, when using wicd-curses.

The only errors in the log that I can see are:
Code:
ERROR: dll_fstat64 emulated function failed
ERROR: Previous line repeated 2 times.
Any help much appreciated!
#62
The first error is hopefully just a temporary glitch in the github.
Quote:ERROR: dll_fstat64 emulated function failed
ERROR: Previous line repeated 2 times.
This seem to be a general error in xbmc add-on handling and I always get it. There should be more information in the log?
#63
Re:github, it wasn't working last yesterday when I first tried either, and it still isn't, so that would be a pretty long-lived glitch.

Re: more errors, I didn't run it with debugging enabled. Let me know if you need such a detailed log. I did just notice another error in the log (when scanning for networks):

Code:
DEBUG: /home/sandro/.xbmc/addons/script.linux.wireless/resources/lib/gui.py:146: RuntimeWarning: tp_compare didn't return -1 or -2 for exception
ERROR: Exception in python script's onAction

The traceback lists:

Hm, you seem to have a bad version. you say you downloaded one of the zip files? If thats the case I don't undertand it at all. If not, skip the git version and go to the download section and get one of the zips.

The git part I have to look at.
#65
I used the offline download from your first post. Looks like v0.0.5. I think I see v0.0.6 on github, so perhaps it is out of date. I'll definitely take a look tomorrow if that's the case.

I downloaded the repository zip from your first post in this thread as well, so perhaps that's out of date too? I'll try to grab the one I see there on github tomorrow too and see if that works.
#66
Yeah, something seem to be off. I haven't touched the git stuff but it looks like something has gone south if that's even possible.

Sorry but it will be some time before I can look into this.

hey vikjon0, nice work on the plugin, i was going to run XBMC in a linux box, but with stuff like this, i don't need the gde to set up wireless.

i got the app installed using the offline zip, and it found the wifi and seems to connect (asks for password, then shows a '>' next to the network, but when i go anywhere in xbmc and try to access online content, it acts like there's no connection.

here's the section of the log which i think deals with the bug, but if you want i can PM you the whole file (wouldn't fit in this post.)

Code:

I also have the dll_fstat64 error...I am pretty sure it can be ignored.

The problem could be that you have connected to the wireless but have no internet access due to some unrelated problems.

You could go to console with CTRL+ALT+F1 and try to ping
1) http://www.google.com
2) A local ip number e.g. your laptop
#69
cool, i should have pinged earlier, i get 100% packet loss (destination host unreachable) pinging internal IP's but checking ifconfig, i have an IP (which is the Ip my router is set to assign the Wireless cards MAC address.
will try removing the auto assign, the routers MAC access list and set it as no encryption.

is there a chance that the user i have doesn't have permission to use the wifi? i tried sudo ping, but got the same issue.

Quote:is there a chance that the user i have doesn't have permission to use the wifi?
The user should have been automatically added to the necessary group, I think netdev.
You can run wicd-curses from command line and see how it looks.

Make sure you have the correct default gateway etc as well, not only IP.
#71
tried on openelec but when I click "install" it asks me for a password... i tried "xbmc" and "openelec" without success...

wicd not installed...

any solution ?
#72
this will not work on openelec (regardless of not knowing the password).
openelec is not Ubuntu/debian based.

You have installed from git. That version only works in Eden. Install one of the zip files or the repository.
#75
Quote:That version only works in Eden.
Regarding the Eden version it is just a quick test version to see if it works with dbus. (which it does in Eden but in standard Dharma not)

Any advanced users are welcome to test but I am unsure if I will continue or if this add-on is even needed in Eden.
