[Apple TV] Machine hangs after a while
#1
I recently (last week) got an Apple TV gen 1. I upgraded the software to the latest version, created a patchstick, installed Nito, RemoteHD and XBMC, configured it, compared it to my mac mini with XBMC, got a Broadcom BCM970015 CrystalHD, installed the driver for it and now I'm playing 720P stuff without any issues. I've modified Cirrus so it doesn't show fanart for the most part, as it lags too much for me (2 seconds or so) although that might change when I get my compactflash2pata converter and go solid state.

So everything is going well, but the system hangs if I leave it going for a while. Since sleep doesn't work Sad and switching it off requires replugging the power cable, I just leave it running the screensaver (tried black, dim and pictures (on a side note, I wish we'd get more screensavers)) and that's fine, as long as I get back to it within time. If I don't, the system still has a white led, but it doesn't respond to anything. There is no signal on the hdmi, I cannot ping the device, nor do any tcp/udp ports respond (did an nmap scan). Unplugging and replugging brings me right back to the system without a problem.

The end of the xbmc log shows this:
Code:

The journaal24 stuff the last thing before I left this evening and the machine being completely stuck when I got back.

So it seems there is some "stop" event going on after 2 hours that I'm not aware of initiating. I'll try to see if there's some powersave settings, but I can't get into the system preferences on account of that not being installed.

Where do I look and what do I change?

sorry about this... on closer look through the system settings, the shutdown function timer was set to 120 minutes and to shutdown. Which the Apple TV can't really do, but it does explain why everything was off.

I disabled it for now, although I would like some "sleep" like mode. How would I be able to achieve that?

Is it possible at all?

The ATV has no sleep mode, it only turns off the display but power consumption will be the same.

yeah, I know/noticed that. But is that because of Apple's atv os, or is it inherent in the hardware?

I mean, would a linux distro be able to put the machine to sleep? It would be a killer feature, as far as I'm concerned.

the power supply is on/off by the cord. that's why the atv can't sleep. there's no way to shut on power nor turn on power except by the cord.
