Sounds like a bug in tvheadend. I recommend you post this problem on the tvheadend forum or on #hts on irc.

So I just loaded the code per the instructions on page 1 and now XBMC won't launch. Maverick minimal install + XBMC Dharma.

I tried looking at the logs and in what was probably a bad late night decision, I wiped the hard drive clean and started from scratch. Bummed.

I just installed ths and the xbmc build from lars' PPA. Xbmc installed fine but when try to config hts tvheadend via localhost:9981 I am prompted for a user / password. It is does not match the one I entered when installing. I also tried to reconfigure, did not help. My linux login does account does not help.

What did I do wrong and how can I fix it?

your asked for a password during the installation of tvheadend. you can reset it with

sudo dpkg-reconfigure hts-tvheadend

edit:
hmm, got a cached page somehow because those answers weren't there before
it's the same password as in /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend/superuser

i also did the reconfigure-step, but it doesn't help.

maybe there is something wrong with file permissions (owner, chown)
p.s. i'm running the live-version...
