I accidentally disabled the settings view at the left pane in home window screen.
How can I put it back on (re-enable it)?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

And what if I have disabled all these buttons, except for the really necessary ones, in the shutdown menu?

Actually, the only visible items in home menu right now are, movies, music, pictures, weather.
Below the weather there was settings, but not any more.
Perhaps, I deselected it by mistake.
The same applies to the shutdown menu, exit, restart xbmc, shutdown and reboot, that's it.
What are my options?

pick one:
1) if you use a remote, try the hash (#) button.
2) map a button on your keyboard/remote to access settings
3) -exit xbmc
-open guisettings.xml
-change this line:
<setting type="bool" name="skin.transparency.menu_settings">true</setting>
to:
<setting type="bool" name="skin.transparency.menu_settings">false</setting>
-start xbmc

I am not using a remote but a logitech dinovo mini.
Are the steps described above the same, or do they differ?

Dear Ronie, thanks a lot for the valuable info.
I restored both the menu and the shutdown button to their previous state.
It took me a while though, to figure out that this file was hidden in appdata/roaming/ e.t.c.
Anyway, should I intervene to the file again or leave it as it is and xbmc will manage the rest?
Thank you very much, once again.
Best wishes,
Andreas
